MATCH PREVIEW: BANTAMS SEEKING VITAL GOALS TO ADVANCE

13 November 2018

City head to Oakwell this evening to take on Barnsley in the final group game of the Checkatrade Trophy (kick-off 7.30pm).

In order to advance to the next round the Bantams will need to win by two clear goals, which will see David Hopkin’s side overtake tonight’s opponents on the Northern Group F ladder.

Only a handful of changes are expected to be made from Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup draw at Aldershot.

Reece Staunton is away on junior international duty while Eliot Goldthorp is suspended after picking up yellow cards in previous Checkatrade outings.

Jim O’Brien (hamstring) and Danny Devine (foot) returned to Bantams action on Saturday - and head coach Hopkin expects them to feature this evening.

Hopkin said: “It will be good for us to get these players back in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“It was the first time I have seen Danny play, on Saturday, and he did really well.

“Both players, especially Danny, had been out for a long time. We have to monitor them but, hopefully, we can get them game-time from the start. We would like each of them to get at least 45 minutes.”

Devine featured in all four of the Bantams’ Checkatrade Trophy outings, last season, but - due to injury - had not featured since March prior to Saturday’s trip to Aldershot.

O’Brien spent nine weeks on the sidelines, nursing a hamstring problem, while Adam Chicksen was ruled out through suspension.

“With Adam coming back into contention, it gives us more competition for places and that is always a good thing,” added Hopkin.

“We are looking forward to the challenge. Hopefully we can push on with the hard work we have been doing, which is starting to pay dividends, and get the result we need.”

Supporters can pay on the gate tonight, with admission prices set at £10 (adults), £5 (students/concessions/juniors).
