The Bantams have agreed a deal to bring experienced midfielder Josh Wright to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Wright has penned a two-year contract with City, becoming the Club's second major signing in just under a week following the arrival of defender Joe Riley from Manchester United last Friday.

Subject to the usual FA and EFL clearances, Wright's Bradford City contract will begin on 1 July.

The 28 year-old featured 30 times for previous club Southend United last season.

Ahead of his spell at Roots Hall, Wright spent two years at fellow League One side Gillingham.

He netted 14 times from midfield for the Gills during the 2016/2017 campaign, including a hat-trick of penalties against Scunthorpe United.

Along with his memorable treble from the penalty spot, another of Wright's eye-catching haul of goals came at the Northern Commericals Stadium in the Gills' 2-2 draw with City.

Those impressive stats, coupled with a string of hard-working performances, earned Wright Gillingham's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards for that season.

Starting his professional career at Charlton Athletic eleven years ago, Wright got his first taste of league football during loan spells at Barnet, Brentford and Gillingham.

His league debut actually came against the Bantams for Barnet in a League Two encounter back in September 2007.

Looking to establish himself as a first team regular, Wright then went on to enjoy two productive campaigns in the Championship with Scunthorpe United between 2009 and 2011.

After leaving Scunthorpe, Wright's impressive form in the second tier with the Iron saw him remain in the Championship by joining Millwall.

The competitive midfielder stayed at The Den for just over three years in total,

Such was his form during his first season with the Lions, Wright was actually rewarded with a fresh three-year deal.

He eventually left Millwall for fellow London side Leyton Orient in early 2015.

Speaking about Wright's arrival, Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott said: "Josh comes to us with a lot of experience, and he has bought into what we are trying to do as a club.

"He thinks this is a fantastic football club.

"Josh has over 300 games under his belt at a relatively young age.

"That experience he has can help with some of the younger players within our squad - it is all about getting that right balance.

"He can play in more than one position in midfield.

"He can grab you a goal, but he can also do the other side of the game - he can get about the pitch and he can tackle.

"Josh ticks a lot of boxes, and he will give the younger players that little bit of comfort.

"If and when things get a bit tough - as can happen during the normal flow of a season - he is the sort of experienced player they can turn to."
