Bradford City have beaten off competition to complete the signing of Premier League midfielder Sean Scannell, who has put pen to paper on an initial two-year deal with the club.

Scannell, 27, arrives for an undisclosed fee from Huddersfield Town after spending the past six seasons with the Terriers.

The Croydon-born winger helped Huddersfield achieve promotion to football’s top flight in 2017 and, last season, spent time on loan with Burton Albion - who City host in August.

Sponsored by Vitty’s Cottages, Scannell admits he had interest from elsewhere but wasted little time in opting for a move to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Scannell, who will wear the No.7 shirt, said: “I was made aware that Bradford City and a few other clubs had shown interest in me, though I was quick to choose this club. I am extremely happy to be here and cannot wait to get going.

“I have spoken at length to Michael Collins and he has discussed the way in which he wants the team to play, which is a massive attraction for me. The style excites me.

“I played with Hope Akpan at Burton and after speaking to him about coming to Bradford City my mind was made up.

“There is a huge amount of history and ambition at this club. I have seen the stadium and the new pitch, which looks fantastic, and I know this is the right move for me.

“I am really looking forward to making my first appearance on home soil.

“From midfield, I will be looking to attack and get on the ball as much as I possibly can.

“The aim is definitely the top half of the table and going up, which is another reason why I wanted to come here.

“When the first game of the season comes, it is all about starting well and showing we mean business from the start.”

Scannell arrives as City head coach Michael Collins’ twelfth new signing ahead of the season’s start.

Collins added: “We are delighted to sign a player of Sean’s calibre, who will undoubtedly add quality and experience to an area of the squad which we are relatively young in.

“The fact Sean has chosen to join us is a major sign of intent.

“We cannot forget he has come from the Premier League, which highlights his strong character.

“Sean sees Bradford City as a club which is progressing and one which can take him back to the level he wants to be playing at.”
