City Claim Victory In Avenue Friendly

18 July 2018

The Bantams claimed victory over near neighbours Bradford (Park Avenue) in their latest pre-season fixture this Wednesday.

Substitute Tom Clare's close range finish towards the end of the ninety minutes secured City a 2-1 victory over Avenue at Horsfall Stadium.

Avenue had held the lead at the break when one of their many trialists on show throughout the game converted a Ryan Toulson cross midway through the first period.

One of City's own trialists on the night - midfielder Luca Colville - levelled things up for the Bantams, however, with a thunderous strike from some distance out just over twenty minutes from the end.

Clare - the first of City's eleven summer signings so far - then registered the victory for the Bantams with the match-winner towards the end.

The victory for the Bantams means they reclaim the Tom Banks Trophy from hosts Avenue.

Despite hosting Sheffield United in a pre-season friendly just twenty-four hours earlier, City still named a relatively strong side against Avenue.

Defensive duo Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Thomas Isherwood, plus attacking quartet Kai Bruenker, Omari Patrick, Tyrell Robinson and Shay McCartan, were all included in City's XI.

All four attackers went close with chances during the friendly encounter before they were replaced in the second period.

Along with those named in City's starting line up, young professionals George Sykes-Kenworthy, Reece Powell and Curtis Peters were also given outings as substitutes after the break.
