YOUNG BANTAMS ENJOY INTERNATIONAL INVOLVEMENT

9 December 2018

A trio of City’s rising stars have recently returned from international involvement.

Reece Staunton, pictured above, has enjoyed a stint representing the Republic of Ireland’s Under-18s, while Dan Francis has returned from a two-week training camp with Sierra Leone.

Youngster Jorge Sikora, meanwhile, recently met with coaches at the Polish Embassy - in London.

The Bantams’ Under-18s boss, Mark Trueman, said: “All three players have come through the academy, so it shows the level of structure we have here.

“We are keen to develop these players, every single day, and help them progress through to first-team level.

“There is real positivity around the academy setup - and it is credit to the players who have taken the opportunities so far.

“Martin Drury has helped me step into the role, he does a great deal of individual work with the under-18s side - alongside his first-team role.

“His experience and knowledge has helped the coaches and players develop and understand the transition between youth and senior football.

“I am also brilliantly supported by our assistant coach, Connor Sellars, and Neil Matthews, our head of coaching.”

Staunton, 17, who has made three first-team appearances for the Bantams, joined up with the Republic of Ireland last year - and has since progressed to under-18s level.

He said: “I am proud to have been involved in the Ireland setup.

“It provided a great opportunity for me to play against better opposition and test my ability.”

Francis has spoken of his experiences while overseas in West Africa.

“The selection for Sierra Leone’s training camp gave me a great experience” he said.

“I feel I made the most of the opportunity as I was selected to train with the senior team.

“I was given very positive feedback by the coaching staff, so look forward to any future international opportunities.”

Polish ace Sikora added: “I was very happy to be recognised and to have got the attention of the Polish international setup.

“It will be exciting for me to learn and further develop as a player.”

City's Under-18s return to action on Saturday, travelling to face Scunthorpe United Under-18s.
