Sean Scannell is counting down the hours to City's season opener at Shrewsbury.

The midfielder looks set to make his competitive Bantams bow this Saturday as City go in search of three points and a “strong” start to the new campaign.

Scannell is in-line to feature as one of several debutants appearing for the first time in league action for City, having penned an initial two-year deal with the club last month.

He said: “I am really looking forward to getting started now.

“Pre-season has been good and everyone is excited for the first game of the season.

“For me, it will be a first. I have never played against Shrewsbury but we have prepared well for this and the lads are ready.

“The squad looks really strong and everyone is raring to go.

“Shrewsbury are a good team, so we will have to take our chances if we want to get the three points.

More than 1,500 Bantams fans are set to descend on Shrewsbury’s Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium, with the club’s second allocation of tickets close to selling out.

Only a limited number of places remain and Scannell has paid tribute to City’s travelling support.

“This is a very well-supported club and it will be great to have so many City fans down there getting behind us on Saturday," added the former Huddersfield star.

“It should make for a brilliant atmosphere and I know the lads are looking forward to running out in front of them.”

A limited number of tickets are available for the eagerly-anticipated Sky Bet League One contest, which gets underway at 3.00pm.
