City head coach Michael Collins has called on his side to "lay down a marker" ahead of their season-opening trip to Shrewsbury Town.

In what will be Collins' first competitive game in charge, the Bantams travel to the Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium to face last season's play-off finalists.

Collins has 15 new signings at his disposal going into tomorrow's eagerly-anticipated fixture and is confident of success.

"Pre-season has allowed us to work towards identifying what our first 11 might look like and we believe we have done that," said the former Huddersfield Town player.

"The team fielded on Saturday will give a good account of itself. We cannot ask for any more than that.

"There is a lot of euphoria building around this game. It is the first one of the new season and everyone is naturally excited.

"The first game always provides an idea of where we are at. We want to lay down a marker this weekend.

"The tempo in training has really gone up a notch in the run up to this game and, as a group, we feel ready.

"It sounds very simple but Saturday will be decided by how many chances we are able to create in the right places.

"We have a game-plan in place and have worked hard and looked at areas we can utilise to get the result.

"The main thing is we are confident going into what I am sure will be a closely-contested fixture.

"The message we have got across to the players is the fact we have a duty to represent this great club - in the best way possible.

"We will go into every game with the attitude of wanting to win. We respect our supporters and will never take a backwards step."

The Bantams return to action at the Northern Commercials Stadium on Saturday August 11, hosting Yorkshire rivals Barnsley (3.00pm).
