BANTAMS HELD BY IN-FORM OLDHAM

17 October 2017

Bradford City 1 (Taylor 3)

Oldham Athletic 1 (Doyle 23)

Tuesday 17th October | Sky Bet League One

Attendance: 19,840 (986 visitors)

The Bantams were held to a draw by an in-form Oldham Athletic side arriving on the back of victories agianst Peteborough, Portsmouth and Blackburn. Paul Taylor gave City the lead with a magnificent 25 yards strike in the early exchanges before Eoin Doyle's coolly taken equaliser midway through the first half.

Taylor came into the side to start ahead of Dominic Poleon to partner Charlie Wyke and after recieivng the ball from Nicky Law, he set sights from 25 yards and rocketed a shot into the top corner past a helpless Latics stopper, Johny Placide.

Oldham had a couple of big chances through their eventual scorer Eoin Doyle shortly afterwards but he was denied by two important blocks inside the penalty area.

Charlie Wyke went down in the penalty area under a challenge from Athletic's Kean Bryan when contesting for an Omari Patrick cross from the left-hand side, shortly afterwards Oldham equalsied.

Doyle did get his goal for Richie Wellens' side on 23 minutes when he latched onto an incisive Cameron Dummigan through ball to slot confidently past his namesake, Colin in the Bradford goal.

It was a decent first half showing by the Bantams but Oldham were quickly out of the traps in the second half going close through Craig Davies who saw a looping header go narrowly over the bar after he'd connected with a Jack Byrne corner.

Jake Reeves was back to his dynamic best for the Bantams after a quiet display at Bury last weekend, and he went close to restoring his team's advantage with a low first time drive from 20 yards which went around a yard or so wide of the mark.

Reeves was involved once again as the Bantams went in search of a winning goal in the latter stages and after picking out Adam Chicksen with an intelligent cross-field pass, the left-back saw a dangerous cross claimed importantly by Placide in the Latics' goal.

Davies almost snatched victory for his side inadvertently in added time. Progressing down the right flank, he aimed a cross into the box which deflcted off Chicksen before looping towards goal; Doyle looked to be concerened and the ball clipped the bar to let the Bantams off the hook.
