THE BANTAMS FALL TO DEFEAT AT BURY

14 October 2017

DEFEAT ON THE ROAD FOR THE BANTAMS

Bury 2 (Maguire 19 pen, Beckford 20)

Bradford City 1 (Wyke 8)

Saturday 14th October 2017 | Sky Bet League One

The Bantams were defeated on the road for the first time this season at the hands of Bury at Gigg Lane.

Backed by over half of the crowd who had turned up in their masses, the visitors rode a shaky start to take the lead through Charlie Wyke who scored his 7th goal of the season in style.

Full debutant Luke Hendrie saw a cross find its way into the path of City's leading scorer and on his weaker left foot he slammed the ball past Leonardo Fasan and into the bottom corner.

At that stage of the game it looked like the Bantams would take charge and get more goals but a very questionable penalty decision for a Hendrie foul on Beckford presented the hosts with a chance to get back into the game.

Maguire sent Colin Doyle the wrong way to level proceedings and within sixty seconds the hosts had the lead. Michael Smith latched onto a cross to loop a header towards goal, Doyle tipped the ball onto the bar but Beckford pounced to score from close range.

City were far from their best but probably did enough to come away with a point. A draw, looking back, would probably have been a fair result.

Most of the second half was dominated by the Bantams with Bury a real threat on the counter attack. Dominic Poleon was played in by substitute Omari Patrick but he failed to beat Fasan as Lee Clark's men rode the storm.

Romain Vincelot has been superb in front of goal for City but it was an afternoon he'd probably like to forget; an Alex Gilliead corner was met by the head of the Frenchman and after heading the ball just wide, he pounded the turf with frustration - the emotion accurately summing up the afternoon.
