WIGAN ATHLETIC 1 BRADFORD CITY 2

18 November 2017

Saturday 18 November 2017
Sky Bet League One
Wigan Athletic 1 (Dunkley 24)
Bradford City 2 (Wyke 14, Robinson 90+2)
Kick Off: 3.00pm
at the DW Stadium

Attendance: 10,669 (2,749 visitors)

A superb injury time strike from substitute Tyrell Robinson secured Stuart McCall's brilliant Bantams a fantastic victory away at title favourites Wigan Athletic.

With the scores level going into the second of five minutes of over time, Robinson burst clear into the Wigan box before unleashing a fierce drive that whistled past Latics 'keeper Jamie Jones and into the roof of the net.

The match-winner came in front of a jubilant away end at the DW Stadium with nearly 2,750 City fans sent into raptures by Robinson's eye-catching goal - his first in senior football.

Against a side tipped by the bookies to end the season as League One champions, City gave as good as they got during an exciting and action-packed encounter.

Nathaniel Knight-Percival had already gone close for City early on before Charlie Wyke gave McCall's men the lead in the fourteenth-minute.

After Luke Hendrie had kept the ball alive in the box following a saved shot from Jake Reeves, Wyke was on hand to scramble home from close range for his eighth goal of the season.

Wigan responded brightly after Wyke's opener, with Matthew Kilgallon required to head clear from right in front of goal following a Sam Morsy curler.

The Latics levelled things up midway through the first period when Chey Dunkley headed in from a Max Power corner.

In keeping with the nature of this enthralling encounter though, City fought back themselves to go close soon after.

An unmarked Wyke sent a thumping header against the bar following Alex Gilliead's cross into the box.

As you would expect from a home side, Wigan pushed and probed for a way through City defences after the interval, but the Bantams stood strong while also looking a threat on the break.

McCall's side actually arguably had the best opening during the second period before Robinson's late winner.

Paul Taylor saw a goal-bound shot somehow blocked by Dan Burn when the City striker looked set to smash home a loose ball inside the area.

After that, the Bantams seemed set to secure a deserved share of the spoils as the game moved into injury time, until City dramatically turned one point into three through Robinson's stunner.
