CITY'S #GAMECHANGERS - THE VOLUNTEERS!

14 March 2017

Bradford City Football Club is pleased to support the 2017 Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action. This annual initiative, now in its 12th year, aims to celebrate access and inclusion for disabled sports fans across England and Wales.

This period of celebration and awareness began on Saturday 4 March 2017 and runs through to this Sunday (19 March).

Disabled people constitute the largest minority group at around 15% of the population and this number is increasing year on year.

Naturally, a large number of disabled people are football fans too and we are pleased to take this opportunity to thank our own disabled fans for their continued loyalty and dedication to this great club.

This year we are celebrating the ‘Game Changers’ that make a big difference to the match day experience of our disabled fans.

We want to shine a light on those who lead and pioneer change that improves access and inclusion, and in many cases changing the lives of disabled people.

This Tuesday's (14 March) story involves a group of disabled supporters and carers of all ages that love the club and just put themselves forward to help in any way they can.

Bradford City Football Club Community Foundation’s Volunteer Scheme uses the existing environment of football that people are already comfortable with and builds on this to enable them to gain new skills, enhance their experiences, grow their social circle, develop independence and make their community a little bigger and a little less scary.

Those who are signed up regularly help where an extra pair of hand is needed at events and include bucket collections for charity, selling pin badges, leaflet distribution and flag waving at pitch side.

We have volunteers who help midweek in various support roles and last year ran a summer programme where a the group cleaned every seat in the stadium!

This scheme has changed the lives of its participants giving them a strong sense of purpose and growing confidence and there are real potential opportunities in the long term as two of the volunteers have now secured employment.

If any fans are interested in signing up for the scheme please email Disability Liaison officer Jaimie Dorwardor call 7818 515639.bradfordcityfcdlo@gmail.com
