McCALL GIVES SQUAD UPDATE AHEAD OF NEWCASTLE FRIENDLY

25 July 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall is hopeful that he will be able to give some more important match minutes to Alex Jones in Wednesday's pre-season fixture with Newcastle United.

Jones missed Saturday's friendly against Sunderland with a tight groin, but McCall believes the striker should be fit to feature when Newcastle arrive at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Dominic Poleon is a doubt for Wednesday night, however, after rolling his ankle in the match with Sunderland.

Timothee Dieng could also miss out with the same niggling injury that has kept him out of City's last two friendlies.

Charlie Wyke has resumed light training after suffering a confirmed small tear in his hamstring.

It is hoped the forward can return to full training at some point next week.

Paul Taylor is also expected to sit out the Newcastle friendly due to a training ground knock.

McCall said: "There is a chance that Tim could feature on Wednesday but we won't take any risks.

"If there is any doubt, we cannot take this risk.

"We've had it before when some of the lads have pushed themselves took much in training or in a match and made an injury worse.

"You'd rather him miss a friendly now than get him to try and play and risk him for the start of the season.

"It is exactly the same with Dom (Poleon) as well.

"We won't take any chances with him either, especially with Charlie (Wyke) not being available to us just yet."
