OXFORD UNITED CHECKATRADE TROPHY TIE POSTPONED

24 January 2017

The Bantams' Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final tie with Oxford United this Tuesday evening has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The game was officially called off shortly before kick off following a meeting between match referee Dean Whitestone and both managers.

After two earlier inspections by a local referee over the course of the previous twenty-four hours, the pitch had been deemed playable upon Mr Whitestone's arrival at the Kassam Stadium at 5:45pm.

Unfortunately, conditions became colder than forecast over the following ninety minutes leading up to kick off, resulting in the tie eventually being called off just as both sides were finishing their warm-up routines.

Mr Whitestone said: "There had been two pitch inspections before we arrived at 5.45pm.

"We took a look and at that time the pitch was playable, but during the warm up it was clear that the conditions had become worse and the pitch was dangerous.

"Clearly our priority has to be the safety of the players, although you obviously feel sorry for the fans as well.

"Unfortunately we had no alternative other than to call the game off this evening."

The game will now be played on Tuesday 31st January, kick off 7.45pm. Full details to be announced shortly.
