Backed by an expected travelling support of between 2,000 - 3,000, City travel to the SportsDirect.com Park this weekend to take on an Oldham team currently positioned 23rd in the Sky Bet League One table.
The Bantams lost out 1-0 at the hands of relegation-threatened Shrewsbury Town in their last league away game two weeks ago after a below-par performance from Stuart McCall's men.
Black says that the Shrewsbury defeat gave the City squad a timely reminder of the high standards required when they come up against any side in the division, especially those battling at the bottom.
Black said: "We know from our game with Shrewsbury Town a couple of weeks ago that teams fighting for their lives down at the bottom can give you difficult games.
"We have a very similar situation on our hands now with Oldham this Saturday.
"We were all disappointed with how the group performed at Shrewsbury. It was a rare off day for most of the group.
"We had too many players playing below standard that day. We have to make sure that was just a minor blip, however, and that we are ready to go for Saturday.
"We are anticipating a difficult game but I'm sure the lads will be up for it."
On the same night as City's postponed Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final tie this Tuesday, Saturday's opponents Oldham defeated Peterborough United 2-0 at the SportsDirect.com Park in front of over 7,000 thanks to a free ticket offer from the Latics.
The victory was Oldham's second on the trot on home soil following the recent return of John Sheridan for his third spell in charge of Lancashire club.
Black added: "It seems like it was a good atmosphere up there and a good performance from Oldham on Tuesday night.
"Although they are in the relegation places, Oldham don't concede too many, especially at home.
"Their form has picked up a little bit in recent weeks so we are anticipating a tough encounter.
"You can see that John's arrival has created a bit of a spark in their camp but our supporters on the day can play their part with the backing they give us.
"Hopefully we can give them three points and a good performance to send them home happy."
Matthew Kilgallon is still sidelined for the trip to Oldham with a shoulder problem, although Tony McMahon, Alex Jones and Alex Gilliead all come back into contention after missing Tuesday's postponed encounter at Oxford.
Nathaniel Knight-Percival is also likely to be involved for this weekend's short journey across the Pennines following a recent twisted ankle.
Black said: "Matthew Kilgallon is the only one we have that will definitely be missing for the Oldham game.
"Tuesday's postponement, as frustrating as it was, did at least give us the opportunity to rest up two or three of the lads.
"Hopefully that means we will have a nearly fully fit squad to choose from for Saturday."
