The Bantams were the ones left with broken hearts on Valentine's Day as they fell to an unfortunate late defeat at the hands of fellow play-off contenders Fleetwood Town.

After dominating the first half, Stuart McCall's men deservedly led at the break thanks to Jordy Hiwula's well-taken eleventh goal of the season a couple of minutes before the interval.

Hiwula had actually already gone close earlier in the half when he was denied by a fine save from Fleetwood 'keeper Alex Cairns after being played in with a sight of goal by Nicky Law.

City continued to look in control of the contest as the game moved into the second period but Fleetwood, aided by a double substitution on the hour mark, drew level midway through the half thanks to a close range finish from former Bantam Devante Cole.

The Bantams' frustrations at being pegged back were clear, especially after Alex Gilliead, who looked bright and lively on his first start in City colours, had fired over from a promising position deep inside the box just minutes before Cole's equaliser.

City's misery was then compounded just nine minutes from the end of normal time when Fleetwood completed an unlikely comeback to claim the three points.

From a quickly-taken Fleetwood corner, Conor McLaughlin drove a cross dangerously into the six yard box and the ball deflected off Stephen Darby and then Josh Cullen before finding the back of the net.

FT: Fleetwood Town 2 Bradford City 1
90min: There will be four minutes of time added on at the end of the match.
90min: Clarke's shot from outside the area is blocked out, the ball lands at the feet of Marshall around the edge of the box but his effort flies comfortably over Cairns' bar.
90min: Darby's cross towards the near post is met by Clarke but his flick for goal is deflected behind for a corner.
88min: YELLOW CARD - Marshall is booked for catching Grant with a high boot as the ball bounces high in Fleetwood's penalty area.
83min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Billy Clarke for Cullen.
81min: GOAL - Fleetwood Town 2 Bradford City 1 - City fail behind from the resulting corner. McLaughlin receives the ball short from a quickly taken delivery from Dempsey and he drives a cross low into the six yard box, with the last touch appearing to come off Cullen as the ball bounces in.
81min: McLaughlin receives the ball on the bounce just outside the area and his half-volley for goal has to be tipped over by Doyle.
77min: Doyle does well to curl onto Grant's dipping effort for goal direct from the resulting free-kick after Vincelot's caution.
76min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Mark Marshall for Hiwula.
76min: SUB - Fleetwood bring on Elohor Godswill for Markus Schwabl.
76min: YELLOW CARD - After receiving a talking-to earlier in the half, Vincelot is booked for barging into Grant as the pair contested an aerial ball roughly twenty-five yards from City's goal.
75min: Hunter's comes in-field from a wide position, firing in a low angled drive that Stephen Darby helps to deflect wide of Doyle's near post.
71min: Hiwula tries to burst through Fleetwood's defence for a run on goal but he is eventually crowded out and the hosts can clear the danger.
70min: Gilliead bursts forward with purpose, skipping past three Fleetwood players in the process, but he cannot quite keep the ball in play as he drives on, with his cross from the byline going out for a goal-kick.
70min: Doyle has to race clear from outside his area to kick clear and prevent Hunter from latching onto McLaughlin's long ball over the top.
68min: GOAL - Fleetwood Town 1 Bradford City 1 - Cole fires Fleetwood level with a close range finish, bundling the ball home after Hunter had crossed dangerously into the six yard box.
62min: City go close through both Law and Gilliead! Law works his way into a shooting opportunity from a tight angle deep inside Fleetwood's penalty area. Law's angled drive beats Cairns' dive but it kicked clear right in front of the line by Ben Davies. Gilliead stretches a boot out to reach the loose ball but his first time effort from only six yards out goes over with Cairns grounded.
60min: SUBS - Fleetwood bring on Ashley Hunter and Bobby Grant for Bell and Brannagan.
57min: Law plays Hiwula into plenty of space in Fleetwood's half on the counter-attack but Bolger does well to halt the striker's progression as he surged into the hosts' penalty area.
48min: Brannagan heads the ball down into the middle from Conor McLaughlin's searching cross towards the far side of Fleetwood's penalty area. Dempsey tries to turn into shooting space but it is Ball who eventually gets a shot in, his effort rolling harmlessly wide though.
46min: The Bantams restart the match.
HT: Fleetwood Town 0 Bradford City 1
45min: There will be a minute of time added on at the end of the first half.
43min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Fleetwood Town 0 Bradford City 1 - Hiwula fires City into the lead! Wyke's neat flick towards his strike partner puts Hiwula in the clear just inside the area and he fires low past Cairns with a clinical finish!
41min: Hiwula's run in behind sees the City striker beat Fleetwood's offside trap. He plays the ball out to Gilliead, who crosses dangerously into the box but the lurking Wyke is inches away from connecting in the middle with a diving header.
39min: Meredith's cut-back finds Cullen inside the area. The loanee midfielder struggles to get the ball out of his feet, however, and his eventual effort for goal is easily cleared. Law fires the ball back towards goal with a strike from outside the box but the shot is blocked out for a throw-in over by the far side.
34min: After a strong run down City's left wing, Law plays the ball in-field into Wyke in the box. Wyke turns neatly towards goal but bumps into Bolger. Wyke goes down after the coming-together but referee Mr Joyce is unmoved and allows play to continue.
31min: Cameron Brannagan's low curling shot from just outside the box is held on the bounce by Doyle.
31min: Devante Cole's low centre into the six yard box is cleared by an alert Cullen.
30min: As a City attack is half-cleared, Nathaniel Knight-Percival flicks the ball invitingly back into the box. Meredith races forward to try and claim possession of the ball but Cairns just beats him to it, punching away the danger.
28min: James Meredith's cross into the box is just behind Charlie Wyke in the middle, leading to the striker firing over with his left foot while on the stretch.
27min: Law's ball into the box from a wide free-kick looks to be finding the head of McArdle in the middle but Cian Bolger gets a vital touch to flick it behind for a corner.
17min: Josh Cullen goes for goal from just outside the area but his rising angled drive on his weaker left foot sails harmlessly wide of Cairns' goal.
15min: Big chance for City repelled by Fleetwood 'keeper Alex Cairns! Law plays Hiwula into space inside the box to give the striker a sight of goal but Cairns comes out to make an important stop!
13min: Romain Vincelot heads down into the mix from an Alex Gilliead corner but the ball bounces over the lurking Jordy Hiwula and out for a Fleetwood goal-kick.
12min: Rory McArdle heads not too far over the bar following Nicky Law's free-kick from wide into the box.
4min: Kyle Dempsey's short corner finds the run of Amari'i Bell just inside the box but the wing back's first time effort flies comfortably over Colin Doyle's crossbar.
0min: Fleetwood kick off the match.
