BIG MATCH PREVIEW | CHESTERFIELD (AWAY)

29 August 2017

The Bantams will kick off their 2017/2018 Checkatrade Trophy campaign this Tuesday evening with their opening Group F game away at Chesterfield.

Stuart McCall's side and Chesterfield are also joined by Manchester City U21s and Rotherham United in the northern section group.

McCall is likely to use the match at the Proact Stadium - kick off 7:00pm - as an opportunity to give some of his squad players the chance to impress.

With noticeable prize money on offer for progression through the competition and a trip to Wembley up for grabs in the grand final though, City will be keen to make a positive start to their latest Checkatrade Trophy campaign.

Team News

Chesterfield
Spireites boss Gary Caldwell has confirmed that he will make changes for Tuesday night's opening group game.

Chesterfield, who fell to the bottom of League Two following a 4-1 defeat at Newport County on Saturday - could bring the likes of Connor Dimaio and Reece Mitchell into their side for the visit of the Bantams.

Chesterfield defender Bradley Barry is expected to miss out after being stretchered off during the Newport defeat.

Bradford City
Now free from suspension, Romain Vincelot is expected to lead City at the Proact Stadium.

Paul Taylor, Alex Jones and Omari Patrick are all also likely to be involved after being unused substitutes in the 3-3 draw at Walsall at the weekend.

Tom Field could miss out after hurting his hamstring against Walsall.

Timothee Dieng is another player who could be sidelined due to the same calf injury that kept him out of the trip to Walsall.

Shay McCartan will definitely miss the game after reporting for international duty with Northern Ireland.

City goalkeeper Colin Doyle remains on standby for the Republic of Ireland squad, however, meaning the shot-stopper could travel with the rest of the group to Chesterfield.

Even if Doyle is involved though, fellow goalkeeper Rouven Sattelmaier is likely to start the game ahead of him.

Format
Tonight's game will kick off at 7:00pm. The match is City's first of their three group games.

Three points are awarded for a win and one each for a draw. Should the game end in a draw after 90 minutes, both sides will take penalties using the new 'ABBA' format to decide who claims the secondary 'bonus' point.
