ACCRINGTON AWAY FOR CITY IN EFL CUP ROUND ONE DRAW

22 June 2016

The Bantams have been handed an away tie at Accrington Stanley in the draw for Round One of the EFL Cup.

Fresh from receiving their full Sky Bet League One fixture list on Wednesday morning, Stuart McCall's men can now add a trip to Accrington's Wham Stadium to their 2016/2017 season schedule following this afternoon's draw.

The tie is scheduled to take place the week commencing 8 August 2016, meaning the game is set to be City's second of the season following their league opener with Port Vale at Valley Parade just days earlier.

Wednesday's first round draw was streamed live on Facebook for the very first time via Sky Sports.

City last trip to Accrington came back in September 2012 when Alan Connell's superb lob secured a point for the Bantams in a 1-1 draw.

Interestingly, McCall's previous visit to Accrington during his first spell as City boss resulted in an entertaining 3-2 win for Bradford.

Two goals down with only ten minutes to go, McCall's men somehow fought back for victory thanks to late goals from Michael Boulding, Barry Conlon and Peter Thorne.

John Coleman's Accrington lost out in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off semi-finals last season to eventual winners AFC Wimbledon.

Ticket details for this tie will be announced in due course.

The season's competition will be named the EFL Cup after formerly been known as the Capital One Cup in recent years.

City, of course, enjoyed great success in this competition just over three years ago when they made it to Wembley before eventually losing out in the grand final to Swansea City.
