Ahead of a home match with Fleetwood Town this Saturday, Parkinson's men welcome Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley to Valley Parade this Tuesday evening for a fixture rearranged from earlier this month.
In-form Barnsley will head into the match in a confident frame of mind after their 6-1 win over Rochdale on Saturday, but City will also have taken heart from the way they fought back from a goal down and a red card to draw at Port Vale.
Parkinson said: "This is a good game for us to look forward to and the lads will go into it in good spirits after the resolve they showed at the weekend.
"The aim has to be to make this game in hand count for us.
"We have to get a positive vibe around the ground on Tuesday night. We want to make the Coral Windows Stadium a great place for our lads to play in and a difficult place for the opposition.
"We can help to do that by putting in a really committed performance. The weather conditions might not be the greatest for the game so we have to be prepared to roll our sleeves up and compete for every ball.
"We also have to produce quality when it is needed, like we did on Saturday with Mark Marshall's cross and Jamie Proctor's header.
"We have been stressing that to the players recently - we need to put ourselves under pressure to produce when it matters."
