West Yorkshire Police are urging fans who drive to Bradford City home games to play their part in a team effort to reduce vehicle crime on match days.
The mid-season reminder comes as figures show that thefts from motor vehicle in the Bradford West area, where Valley Parade is situated, have dropped by 11 per cent between August and January this year, compared to the same time last year.
The Bradford West Area Neighbourhood Team, who continue to work with the club to tackle match day car crime, are now urging fans to play their part by removing anything from their vehicles that might appeal to a thief (such as gadgets and clothing) and to make sure their vehicle is locked before leaving it unattended.
Local officers have been joined by Special Constables and police volunteers this season in the hours leading up to kick-off, patrolling the area around Valley Parade and handing out leaflets to fans to remind them to secure their vehicles. Police are also using social media to spread the message.
Inspector Tom Horner, said: "We are pleased to see that thefts from vehicles in the Bradford West area are continuing to drop, but we will not be complacent and would urge match-goers to do their bit to make sure this trend continues.
"No one wants to lose out on match day, and we hope that fans taking cars to the game will continue to spare some extra time to make sure their vehicles are locked and all valuables are removed or hidden from view.
"Leaving your vehicle unlocked or leaving valuables where they can be seen is like giving an opportunist thief an open goal.
"A thief can be in and out of your vehicle in less time than it takes to score a goal. Always check the door handle to make sure your vehicle is locked and that valuables are removed from view."
A spokesperson from Bradford City FC, said: "The success of the #149 campaign means that more people are attending our games and the Club is delighted that although numbers have increased the incidents of thefts from vehicles has been reduced significantly.
"However, for those that suffer from these crimes, it is still deeply upsetting and frustrating. Therefore, we would thank supporters for heeding the warnings from West Yorkshire Police and the Club, but ask people attending our games not to become complacent.
"If all supporters could continue to park safely, make sure their vehicle is secure and put any valuables out of sight, we hope to see a further fall in this type of crime taking place while people are enjoying their football."
