BURY WIN 4-2 ON PENALTIES AFTER EXTRA TIME

Attendance: 6,227 (694 visitors)

The Bantams fell out of this season's Emirates FA Cup at the third round stage after losing their replay with fellow Sky Bet League 1 side Bury on penalties at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Following a goalless ninety minutes and extra time period - both of which were dominated by Phil Parkinson's men - City lost out 4-2 on penalties after the fit-again Steven Davies and the recalled Devante Cole saw their spot-kicks saved.

Bury skipper Nathan Cameron saw red shortly before the break after two cautions in quick succession - one for a foul on Luke James, who partnered Cole in attack due to a minor calf injury for James Hanson, and another for handball just three minutes later.

After Cameron's dismissal, City enjoyed large spells of constant pressure and created a number of promising scoring opportunities.

Second half substitute Josh Morris saw a shot deflect onto the post from a half-cleared City corner, while Davies hit the crossbar in injury time following Lee Evans' late free-kick from wide into the box.

In extra time, Davies struck a drive from the edge of the box agonisingly wide of the post, Rory McArdle had a close range shot from another set-piece kept out by the frame Leon Clarke and Billy Clarke's goal-bound strike was blocked from barely yards out by Chris Hussey after Bury 'keeper Ian Lawlor had repelled a shot from James Meredith.

Cole could have struck for the Bantams towards the very end of extra time but his looping effort from the edge of the box on the half-volley dropped narrowly wide of goal.

Bury's best chance of the replay came in the second period of extra time when Danny Pugh sneaked into the box unmarked and hit the post with a volley from a Hussey cross.

THE TIE WILL NOW GO TO PENALTIES
120min: There will be two minutes of time added on at the end of the second period of extra time.
120min: SUB - Bury bring on Jacob Mellis for Etutu.
119min: Cole fires narrowly wide with a strike on the half-volley from just outside the box following Morris' ball into him.
116min: SUB - Bury bring on Ryan Lowe for Mayor.
114min: City go so close to finally opening the deadlock! After playing a one-two with Cole, Meredith sees his strike from just inside the box pushed out by Lawlor. Billy Clarke looks set to tap in the rebound from close range but Hussey produces another brilliant tackle to block the effort away from right in front of the goal-line. Seconds later, Evans lines up a strike from just outside the box but the effort curls wide.
112min: Andrew Tutte's dipping drive from just outside the box goes narrowly over Williams' bar before dropping onto the roof of the net.
111min: Darby's ball back into the box after Bury clear a Morris corner finds Nathan Clarke but the defender's low strike at goal is held by Lawlor.
110min: Evans' low cross into the box but Billy Clarke's side-footed strike with his left foot from around eight yards out is pushed behind by Lawlor.
108min: Bury hit the post through Pugh! Hussey's cross into the box finds the midfielder unmarked and his volley crashes against the far post with Williams rooted before McArdle clears.
107min: YELLOW CARD - After a number of earlier occasions of time wasting in the first period of extra time, Lawlor is eventually booked for kicking the ball away as City try to take the resulting corner.
106min: Evans' strike on the half-volley from outside the box flashes just wide of goal via a touch off a Bury player.
106min: Bury restart the match.
105min: There will be one minute of time added on at the end of the first period of extra time.
105min: From the resulting McMahon corner, the ball drops into the path of McArdle but his goal-bound shot on the turn is blocked from close range by Leon Clarke. Davies tries to scramble home afterwards but Lawlor is eventually able to dive on the ball.
105min: Cole's clever back-heel gives Billy Clarke a sight of goal but Peter Clarke makes a great saving tackle just as the Irish striker looked to toe-poke past Lawlor.
103min: Evans picks out the run of Davies inside the box with a well-timed pass but the striker's progress is halted by a brilliant tackle from Peter Clarke.
99min: Evans tries his luck from distance but his ambitious drive sails high and wide of Lawlor's goal.
98min: McMahon is played into space down City's right flank before the midfielder runs into the box and fires in a low drive which is held by Lawlor.
98min: The ball breaks into the path of Davies and the substitute striker unleashes a powerful drive from just outside the box that whistles narrowly past the far post with Lawlor rooted.
91min: The Bantams start extra time. City will attack towards the T.L Dallas Stand again in this first period of extra time.
END OF NORMAL TIME - THE TIE GOES TO EXTRA TIME
90+3min: Davies hits the bar! Evans' whips in the resulting free-kick from wide and the City sub plants a header smack against the bar before the ball bounces over.
90+2min: YELLOW CARD - Hussey is booked for dragging over Morris as the City sub looked to burst down the Bantams' left flank.
90min: There will be three minutes of time added on at the end of the match.
90min: Davies turns on the ball and runs for the Bury penalty box but his eventual low drive from just outside the area is dragged comfortably wide of goal.
88min: Mayor runs at Darby before fizzing in a low cross into the six yard box that deflects off McArdle before flashing just wide of Williams' near post for a corner.
86min: Billy Clarke picks the ball up in space from Evans' pass before driving forward and firing in a rising shot from just outside the box that goes over the bar.
85min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Steven Davies for Marshall.
72min: City go so close to opening the scoring through Morris! As McMahon's corner delivery is headed away, Morris fires the ball back towards goal from inside the area - only for his strike to deflect off Leon Clarke and hit the base of the post. McArdle and Billy Clarke try to scramble the ball home afterwards but Bury eventually clear their lines.
70min: A stretching Nathan Clarke tries to sneak in on the blind side to get a touch on Morris' wide free-kick delivery into the box but the ball just bounces past Lawlor's far post.
66min: SUBS - The Bantams bring on Josh Morris and Billy Clarke for James and Routis respectively.
65min: McArdle heads over as he stretches to reach McMahon's fizzing corner delivery into the middle.
61min: YELLOW CARD - After getting away with a few earlier fouls, Danny Mayor is booked, presumably for persistent fouling, after barging over James Meredith as the Australian left back looked to surge into Bury's half.
54min: Cole's clever flick forward finds James in with a run on Lawlor's goal inside the box. As James looks to plug the trigger and fire past Lawlor though, a fine recovering tackle from Peter Clarke denies the Bantams striker.
53min: Chris Hussey's ball over the top looks for a second like it could be getting Leon Clarke in with a sight of goal inside the box but McArdle does just enough with a sliding tackle to halt the striker's progress and City can clear their lines.
46min: The Bantams restart the match.
HT: Bradford City 0 Bury 0
45+2min: Evans looks to clip a pass into the box for James, Peter Clarke heads clear but Stephen Darby is onto the loose ball just outside the area. Darby strikes the bouncing ball for goal but his looping effort takes a deflection off a Bury player and over for a corner.
45min: There will be two minutes of time added on at the end of the first half.
42min: SUB - Due to Cameron's dismissal, defender Peter Clarke is brought on Tom Pope by Bury.
42min: As events settle down following Cameron's dramatic departure from the pitch, McMahon plays the resulting free-kick into the box but a stretching McArdle can only head over as he looked to put the ball across goal.
40min: YELLOW CARD = RED CARD - Cameron is given his marching orders after receiving a second caution in the space of only three minutes! Following Nathan Clarke's knock forward into Bury's half of the pitch, Cameron wrestles James out of the way to reach the pass but appears to knock the ball with his hand as he gets there. The questionable decision from Cameron leaves referee Mr Geoff Eltringham with no choice but to send the centre half off.
37min: YELLOW CARD - Shakers skipper Nathan Cameron is booked for hauling back James as the striker looked to burst clear down City's right flank.
32min: As Etutu keeps a Bury attack alive from a Shakers corner, the midfielder turns away from James before feeding Soares, who fires in a drive from the edge of the box which is held by Ben Williams at the second attempt.
16min: McMahon fires wide with a curling free-kick from roughly 25 yards out.
14min: Marshall wins back from Tom Soares deep in Bury's half, allowing James to surge dangerously towards the visitors' penalty area. Now in the box, James drives the ball across the box with real purpose. The ball is just in front of Marshall but a stretching Cole behind him looks set to fire for goal from only yards out, only for his feet to slip from underneath him as the promising chance passes by.
13min: James' teasing low cross into the box is just behind the lurking Cole and a waiting Mark Marshall can only skew a shot wide of goal with his right foot.
11min: City go close through Luke James! Tony McMahon's near post corner delivery is glanced on by James, narrowly missing the target in the process. Routis just keeps the ball alive over by the far side but his ball across the six yard box fails to find a City team-mate for a tap-in and a grateful Ian Lawlor can gather.
4min: Play is stopped briefly as Routis and Danny Pugh appear to clash heads during an aerial challenge for the ball. Both are soon up on their foot and able to continue.
3min: Leon Clarke looks for a second like he could get in behind City's defence and with a run in on goal when the ball bounces his way but a superb recovery tackle from Rory McArdle dispossesses the Bury striker.
2min: After receiving the ball from Christopher Routis, Devante Cole turns and runs towards Bury's penalty area. Being closed down by Kelvin Etutu all the time though, Cole can only fire harmlessly over from just outside the box.
0min: Bury kick off the replay. City will attack towards the T.L Dallas Stand end in the first half.
