After totally bossing proceedings for the vast majority of the game, City looked set to be heading for their fifth win on the trot thanks to Jamie Proctor's opener until Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's fortunate equaliser six minutes from the end ensured the hosts picked up a share of the spoils.
Parkinson said: "I don't think we could have done much more. The general performance levels from the lads were excellent.
"From the first minute to the very end, we have completely dominated the game.
"We've had a goal disallowed that looked on-side, we've had a strong penalty appeal turned down, their goalkeeper has made some great saves and we've had seventeen corners.
"We should have been out of sight but a combination of us not being ruthless enough, their 'keeper making some good saves and some big decisions not going our way meant it was only 1-0, and you are always vulnerable at 1-0.
"We never felt threatened by them but just one moment has cost us. It was a real shame but we couldn't ask much more from the lads today (Saturday).
"They had made all three substitutions by the time the second half had started so we really distributed their plans. Kicking to our fans - who were fantastic again - in that second period, we really took the game to Shrewsbury and it would have been great to have killed them off.
"Sometimes you don't get what you deserve in football though. Maybe there have been times this season when we have nicked points when perhaps we didn't quite deserve them.
"Of course the lads are disappointed in the dressing room - that is probably as comfortable as we have been in a game all season - but we have to be encouraged by our performance.
"Our energy levels were good, some of the football we played was great as well. We've created numerous chances and we have to keep playing like this and keep those standards high in our remaining games.
"We will come bouncing into training on Monday and get ourselves ready to go again at Coventry on Tuesday."
