CITY KIT MAN TO BEGIN ANOTHER CHARITY TREK

28 April 2016

Bantams kit man John Duckworth will embark on yet another charity walking challenge this weekend following the conclusion of City's Sky Bet League 1 fixture at Southend United.

Following previous treks from Bradford to Lincoln and Lincoln to Bradford (twice) - each time in less than 24 hours - John will set off from Southend's Roots Hall ground on Saturday evening to walk the 211 miles back to the Coral Windows Stadium.

The aim is to complete the walk in time for the club's final game of the regular season at home to Chesterfield the following Sunday.

John and three members of his Bantamstrek fundraising team - Emma and Mark Tillotson and Scott Merrifield - will be undertaking the mammoth task to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

John - a life-long City fan - said: "You can't heal people with events like this but you can help to make their lives a little bit better, and that is what we are aiming to do. Macmillan is a great cause and they do a wonderful job with people.

"I love walking and doing what I can to help people with challenges like this. It is our longest challenge yet and probably the toughest but I know that every step forward is a step nearer home.

"I will be thinking about why we're doing this to keep me going through the tough times - we won't want to let anybody down.

"We raised £14,000 for Macmillan last year and £11,000 for the Burns Unit with the walk from Lincoln to Bradford.

"Every penny helps - we would appreciate any donations at all made by the fans."

On top of his previous walks between Bradford and Lincoln, the City kit man - along with the assistance of his BantamsTrek group - has also helped to organise plenty of other fundraising events over the years including three Yorkshire Three Peaks walking challenges, a number of coffee mornings and numerous other charity events for the Burns Unit and MacMillan Cancer Support.
