NEW NETS FUNDING BOXED OFF BY SHIPLEY BANTAMS

30 September 2015

The new 'Box Style' nets were recently introduced at the Coral Windows Stadium. These commonly used type of nets sees the netting held up by three stanchions behind the goal to form a box shape. This particular style of nets are widely used in British and European football.

It is clear to see that the new introduction has gone down well with the fans of Bradford City on Social Media channels, many of which were calling for these type of nets to be brought in during years gone by.

It is official now though, the old nets are a thing of the past here at the Coral Windows Stadium and the Box nets are here to stay; the pitch is emerald green and carpet-like this season with many thanks going to Head
Groundsman Mick Doyle and his colleagues for their hard work in getting it to look in prime condition. With the new nets to go with it, it's a double act that really does look the part.

Well-known travel supporters' group Shipley Bantams who run at least one coach to every single league and cup away game, are the ones to thanks for these, with Steve Gorringe and co. responsible for the funding of them.

Here's what Steve had to say:

'The box nets came about because I think Mick Doyle approached me and he wanted a cylinder or something, but then the club bought him one.'

'He then said cheekily, with a smile on his face, 'I could do with some new box nets' and I didn't even know what he meant but anyway they're here now.'

'We raise our money mainly through coach travel and the odd fundraiser at the Wood bottom club in Baildon where we're based, but mainly through coach travel.'

'So all these people come to all the games away from home and we turn that into a profit hopefully.'

'It was quite a considerable amount this year, it was £6,000 to the club all in all. £2,500 to the Burns Unit, so yes we had a really good season.'

'We hope to see the ball hit the back of these box nets plenty of times, but only for one team of course!'
