TEN OF THE BEST - 8. DONCASTER ROVERS (A)

22 May 2015

Yesterday we revealed number 9 in the countdown from 10 to 1 of the list of best City victories from throughout the 2014-15 season. Number 9 was of course the narrow away victory at play-off semi-finalists Chesterfield back in December, with Billy Clarke scoring one of the goals of the season to secure the three points for the Bantams that day. At 8, it’s the crushing 3-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers on Good Friday…

03/04/15 – at The Keepmoat Stadium

City produced a stunning victory in South Yorkshire to virtually write off Doncaster’s play-off hopes, and very much keep their own alive. The first half was a closely fought contest, and it was the home side that came the closest to breaking the deadlock, with frontman Curtis Main, who scored the winner in the reverse fixture at The Coral Windows Stadium, striking the post.

Rovers manager Paul Dickov admitted his team were poor in the second half, and the scoring began with Blackpool loanee Gary MacKenzie scrambling home from a corner, although he injured himself in the process. Billy Clarke slammed the second past Stephen Bywater from the edge of the area, and Tony McMahon put the icing on the cake in the closing stages of the game, capitalising on a Reece Wabara slip to score his first goal for the club since arriving on loan from Blackpool.

Parkinson’s Reaction:

‘I think in the context of wins this season, this has got to be right up there with the best, because we came into it on the back of a disappointing defeat (vs Chesterfield) on Tuesday.’

‘We’ve come to a team who haven’t played for a couple of weeks, and who have a lot of Championship quality players in their side.’

‘I don’t think 3-0 flattered us tonight, it was a deserved score line.’

League Table:

6 | Chesterfield – 60

-----------------------------

7 | Bradford – 57

8 | Rochdale - 56

9 | Barnsley - 56
