0Fleetwood Town

2 (Hanson 42, Morais 78)Bradford City

26/12/14 – Highbury Stadium

The Bantams moved up to 5thin League One with a Boxing Day victory at Fleetwood Town. The hosts went close through full back Danny Andrew who later limped off injured, but all in all, it was to be a very controlled display of football by Phil Parkinson’s men.

Shortly before the half time interval, James Hanson headed in at the far post, latching onto Mark Yeates cross, following some great work down the right flank by the in-form Irishman. Jamie Proctor came the closest Town were to get after striking the post with a curling shot from 25 yards, and Filipe Morais struck late on to all but confirm the victory.

The win moved City to the top of the rest of League One, with Bristol City, MK Dons, Swindon Town, and Preston North End beginning to break away from the rest of the division, taking up those top 4 places.

Parkinson’s Reaction:

‘In the first half it was even Stevens, but we scored a great goal. In the second half, I thought we were really, really good today, we were excellent.’

‘Against Scunthorpe (previous fixture), it wasn’t a disastrous second half performance, but I felt they played with more intent that us. It was almost as if we thought, we’re on a good run, so the result will take care of itself, but football doesn’t work like that.’

‘You’ve got to make things happen with your level of performance, and today in that second 45 minutes, I thought we were absolutely magnificent.’

League Table:

4 | Preston – 44

5 | Bradford – 33

6 | Sheffield United – 33

7 | Rochdale - 31
