Coming towards the end of a tight and hard-fought first period that had been edged by Phil Parkinson's men, Harrison capitalised on an under-hit header by Gary MacKenzie back towards Ben Williams before slotting home from close range past the Bantams shot-stopper.

Harrison was only on the pitch after being brought up into Chesterfield's starting eleven from the bench following the late withdrawal of fellow striker Armand Gnanduillet.

Chesterfield thought they had doubled their advantage shortly after the break when Sam Hird converted from close range following a Gary Roberts corner but Sam Clucas was flagged for offside.

After that close shave, City huffed and puffed for a way back into the match but their best chance to equalise didn't come until the final minute of normal time.

Substitute Tony McMahon was picked out in the box by Billy Knott's low cross but Blackpool loanee's shot on the stretch from around eight yards out was repelled thanks to a sharp reflex save from Lee via his right boot.

57min: Routis' wide free kick delivery towards the far post is headed back across goal by Stead and McArdle sees his close range effort bravely smothered by Lee.

56min: YELLOW CARD - Ryan is booked for blocking off Meredith as the Australian looked to burst down City's left wing.

45min: Stead appears to have got the better of Ian Evatt and looks in a good position to fizz a centre across the six yard box from close range but the ball seems to get caught under the striker's feet and Evatt can get back to recover and clear his lines.

45min: After being picked out by Knott, Clarke surges into Chesterfield's area with a purposeful run before sending a hanging cross into the middle. The cross is just to high for Stead over by the far post, however, and the best Christopher Routis behind him can do is prevent the ball going out for a goal-kick.

39min: Knott turns away from Tendayi Darikwa down City's left flank before racing from wide into Chesterfield's penalty area. Knott tries pick one of three team-mates out in the middle but his driven cross from a decent position is headed out by the near post.

37min: Stephen Darby's fizzed ball into the middle hits the knee of Stead from around eight yards out before bouncing over Lee's crossbar and out for a Chesterfield goal-kick.

35min: Rory McArdle seems like he could have been tugged back as he tried to get his head onto Knott's ball into the box from a short City free-kick routine. Nothing is given, however, other than a Chesterfield goal kick as the ball flies out of play.

33min: Clucas' teasing ball into the six yard box just flashes in front of the lurking Harrison before bouncing behind for a City goal-kick.

26min: Jon Stead's effort on the volley is saved by Tommy Lee at his near post after Hanson had headed down Billy Knott's cross into the area towards his strike-partner.

24min: Sam Clucas fires comfortably wide from just outside the box after Byron Harrison had fed Ryan's strike from distance back into his path.

22min: Clarke needs a check-over from Matt Barrass now after being bundled into from behind by Drew Talbot just outside the box. No free-kick is given, however, despite the Irishman having to finish off his treatment from Barrass while play is continuing.

8min: James Meredith is back on his feet after receiving a spot of treatment from Head Physio Matt Barrass following a whack to the face after an aerial tangle with Jimmy Ryan.

3min: Gary Roberts tries his luck from distance with a speculative attempted lob from around 45 yards out and the effort drops not too far over Ben Williams' bar.
