Following an inspection by the Safety Advisory Group, the current 15 by 12-metre memorial flag at the back of the stand has been deemed unfit for future use due to its weight and the number of people potentially surrounding it on a match-day.
With that in mind, the supporters board have teamed up with the club to come up with a solution.
An image of the memorial flag will be projected onto six metal sheet fixed boards which will attach to the back of the stand itself where the original flag is currently situated.
After checking with signage companies, the club known the work will cost approximately £2,776.
The supporters board is currently searching for any individual or company who could be willing to contribute to the permanent memorial.
As it stands, the current memorial flag is due to be removed this Friday (17 July 2015) but club officials hope it will be possible to have the new structure in place before City's first home league match of the season.
Stadium and Facilities Manager David Dowse said: ""It's a heavy and massive flag and it has a few rips in it, so it would not last through another winter up there.
"The new flag would be attached to six boards at the back of the stand. It would be painted onto the metal sheets.
"We would love to get the flag in place in time for our first home game against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, August 15."
