BRADFORD CITY 1 ROCHDALE 2

10 January 2015

Saturday 10 January 2015
Sky Bet League 1
Bradford City 1 (Stead 32)
Rochdale 2 (Vincenti 12, Andrew 90+3)
Kick Off: 3.00pm
at the Coral Windows Stadium

Attendance: 13,571 (728 visitors)

The Bantams' ten-match unbeaten run came to an end in the cruelest possible fashion following a barely warranted injury time winner from Rochdale.

City, who had Jordan Pickford sent off after only ten minutes, looked to be heading for a share of the spoils with virtually seconds remaining until Dale striker Calvin Andrew scrambled home a header following fellow substitute Michael Rose's late free-kick into the area.

The Andrew goal was a real sicken for Phil Parkinson's men, especially considering they had arguably been the better side despite playing over 80 minutes with a man less.

Pickford was given his marching orders after bringing down Rochdale's Matt Done inside the box after the striker had been played through on goal by Peter Vincenti.

The resulting penalty decision against Pickford was probably justified but the subsequent red card given to the shot-stopper was more debatable, especially considering the fact that Done appeared to moving away from goal and Rory McArdle and Alan Sheehan looked to be covering.

With Pickford off, replacement goalkeeper Ben Williams was drafted off the bench to face Ian Henderson's resulting spot-kick.

City looked to have been let off the hook for a second when Henderson chipped his kick onto the bar but Vincenti was lurking to smash home the rebound.

Rochdale could have kicked on with a goal and a man advantage, but it was City, who had started brightly before the penalty incident, who continued to look the more threatening.

Belying the fact that they were a player light, Parkinson's men deservedly wrestled their way back into the contest just past the half hour mark through Jon Stead.

After James Hanson and Sheehan had kept the ball alive following Filipe Morais' cross into the box, Stead was on hand to beat Dale 'keeper Josh Lillis and equalise with a close range header.

Into the second period, City's tireless troops once again managed to more than hold their own against the eleven of Rochdale, probably creating the better chances in the half as well.

Going into the final minute of injury time, the Bantams looked set to pick up a praiseworthy point until Andrew pounced following a late Rochdale free-kick to break City's hearts.

As Andrew's injury time header squirmed past Williams, Vincenti, who was stood right in front of the City 'keeper, was argubaly in an offside position.

Despite the Bantams' protests though, the goal stood and Parkinson's side were left to rue the fact that their lung-bursting efforts were ultimately for nothing.

67min: Rose fires over with a 25 yard free-kick.
67min: SUB - Rochdale bring on Joel Logan for Henderson.
62min: Sheehan fizzes the resulting free-kick into the area and McArdle flings himself at the ball trying to connect with a diving header. The defender narrowly misses out on connect, however, and ball flies into the chest of Lillis.
62min: YELLOW CARD - Lancashire is booked for catching Morais late just wide of Rochdale's penalty area.

53min: A little bit of history. Vanishing Spray is used for the first time ever at the Coral Windows Stadium after Tanser brings Stead down on City's right flank just outside the area. Sheehan whips the resulting free-kick delivery into the area and Knott glances a header over.
49min: After seeing his initial cross blocked out by Morais, Done fires the ball back into the mix and his low drive from an angle inside the area flashes narrowly wide of Williams' far post, just missing the lurking Henderson in the process.
47min: Morais' cross finds the head of Hanson but the striker sends a header over the bar from around seven yards out.

38min: Sheehan plays the ball into the area and Hanson flicks on but the header is just out of the reach of Stead, who is lurking at close range, and Lillis can gather.

32min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bradford City 1 Rochdale 1 Stead has City back level! Hanson keeps the ball alive at the far post before Sheehan flicks on into the path of Stead, who just beat Lillis to the ball to head in from close range.
28min: Stead's ball into Knott finds the midfielder in space inside the area. Knott tries to fire the ball across goal from a tight angle near the byline but Oliver Lancashire is well positioned to cut out the danger by Lillis' near post.
21min: Sheehan's corner delivery is headed back down into the mix by McArdle towards Gary Liddle but the midfielder's first time shot from around eight yards out is deflected up and over the bar by Eastham.
12min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Rochdale 1 - Ian Henderson steps up to take the penalty but strikes the bar as he tries to cheekily clip the ball over substitute shot-stopper Williams. Unfortunately for City though, Vincenti is on hand to follow up and ram the loose ball into the net.
12min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Ben Williams for Halliday. City are now playing 4-3-2 following Pickford's dismissal.
10min: PENALTY TO ROCHDALE AND RED CARD! - A game-changing decision here! Jordan Pickford is red carded after giving a penalty away! Vincenti plays Matt Done through on goal. Done tries to round Pickford but the shot-stopper brings him down with his leg. It is a clear penalty but the red card that follows is debatable perhaps as Rory McArdle and Alan Sheehan seemed to be covering behind and Done's touch past Pickford looked to be taking him away from goal.
3min: Billy Knott plays the ball into Jon Stead inside the box and the striker turns goalwards before shooting narrowly wide with a curling effort that whistles just past Lillis' far post.
2min: James Hanson nips the ball away from Ashley Eastham following Andy Halliday's knock-down before firing in a drive from outside the area that flashes not too far over Josh Lillis' bar.,
0min: Rochdale kick off the match. City will attack towards the T.L Dallas Stand end in the first period.
