GILLINGHAM CONNECTIONS

30 December 2015

The Bantams make the long journey to Gillingham this week for their first Sky Bet League 1 fixture of the new calendar year.

City's maiden match of 2016 at Gillingham's MEMS Priestfield Stadium this Saturday (2 January) is scheduled to kick off at 3:00pm.

City's trip to Kent will be their fifth under the reign of Phil Parkinson following two previous away matches against the Gills in Sky Bet League 1 and two in League 2.

It will also be the tenth time overall Parkinson's men have faced Gillingham in total.

Like Port Vale, Gillingham have been in the same division as City for every one of the five seasons Parkinson has been at the helm at the Coral Windows Stadium.

This Saturday's match will be City's twenty-third in the league so far this season - marking the halfway point in their 2015/2016 League 1 campaign.

Former Bantams centre half John Egan is expected to line up in defence for Gillingham at the weekend.

Egan was on loan at City from Sunderland in 2012 but unfortunately his loan period was cut short due to a broken leg picked up in a home game against Plymouth Argyle.

Egan has played in both of City's last two encounters with Gillingham.

Gillingham ran out 2-1 winners at Coral Windows Stadium towards the start of this season in August.

The Bantams' previous visit to the Priestfield Stadium came back in April last season when the hosts weathered a strong showing from City in the first half to edge out a 1-0 victory.
