Match referee Trevor Kettle officially called the game off this Saturday morning following an inspection of the playing surface at the Coral Windows Stadium.
Along with the condition of the pitch, Mr Kettle also took into consideration the weather forecast for the rest of the day, plus the current safety issues affecting some of the local roads, before coming to his decision.
No new date has been confirmed as of yet for this fixture.
Speaking about the postponement, City's Facilities Manager David Dowse said: "I rang the referee (Trevor Kettle) at 6:55am to tell him we were going to have concerns.
"Burton were due to travel at 10:45am and their supporters at 11:30am.
"The referee first had a look (at the pitch) at about 10:00 - 10:15am and the ball wasn't moving.
"There was a little chink of light with the weather forecast for later but that was too little, too late.
"The pitch wasn't playable, and we also had to consider supporters who would be travelling in from areas where there had been flooding."
