PARKINSON URGES CITY TO GO AGAIN

17 April 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson knows that City have to pick themselves up quickly and go again this weekend after Tuesday's crushing home defeat at the hands of Championship-bound Bristol City.

Following Tuesday's humbling loss, Parkinson's men will attempt to dust themselves off and bounce back with purpose when they travel to Sheffield United this Saturday for the mouth-watering prospect of a Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane.

City's match against the Blades is one of four games left for the Bantams in the 2014/2015 campaign.

Following the trip to Bramall Lane, Parkinson's side also have to travel to Scunthorpe United and Crewe Alexandra, with their final home of the season against Barnsley sandwiched in between.

With the Bantams' hopes of securing an end-of-season Play-Off place now almost certainly over for another year, Parkinson has instead given his players the challenge of beating last year's eleventh-placed finish.

Parkinson said: "The lads have been so desperate to keep themselves in and around those Play-Off positions come the end of the season, I think the realisation that was slipping away was a bit too much for them.

"We had a good chat with them on Wednesday, however, and they now know that we must put in a performance worthy of Bradford City this Saturday.

"As much as it hurt for us on Tuesday night, we can't feel sorry for ourselves anymore. No one else is going to put things right.

"We have enjoyed so many good moments this season but the lads, like the rest of us, are only human.

"They have all wanted it so badly - I think you could see that at Gillingham last Saturday when they were all on the floor after getting beaten.

"Our pride was dented on Tuesday and we have four games now to put things right again.

"It is important that we pick ourselves up for these games. We have forged a reputation as a group who put in honest and committed performances, and we have to keep that.

"The aim now has to be to end the season higher than we finished last year."

After the heavy defeat by Bristol City, Parkinson could look to make changes for the trip to Bramall Lane.

Mark Yeates is struggling with his on-going shoulder problem, however, while Gary MacKenzie will need to be checked after battling through the last two games with an ankle knock.

Andrew Davies is coming back into contention following a recent hamstring problem but it is unsure yet whether this Saturday will be too soon for him.

Parkinson added: "We are down to the bare bones again a bit for the weekend but we have to find a team and set-up which we think will give us the best chance at Sheffield United."
