CHANGES FOR DICKIE BIRD EVENT

8 September 2014

The football club would like to inform supporters of some important changes to the forthcoming special Sunday lunch event with legendary former cricket umpire Dickie Bird.

Having originally been scheduled to take place at the Coral Windows Stadium, the lunch will now been held at the Midland Hotel in Bradford.

The event will now also take place on Sunday 26 October - not Sunday 12 October as originally advertised.

The day will begin from 11:00am on the Sunday (26 October 2014) when Dickie will sign autographs and pause to chat with guests before lunch.

The lunch - a three-course meal - will be served at midday. Lunch will consist of a soup starter, Sunday carvery for main, plus a delicious dessert to finish things off.

Once the meal has ended - approximately 1:00pm - Dickie will then hold a Q&A session and tell stories from his time as an international umpire.

A former footballer and cricketer himself, Dickie - recently voted as Yorkshire CCC's president - umpired between 1970 and 1998.

He oversaw 66 Test matches and 69 ODI's (One Day Internationals), including 3 World Cup Finals.

Since his retirement, Dickie has set up the 'Dickie Bird Foundation' to help disadvantaged youngsters achieve their potential in sport.

Dickie was given an OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours list for his services to charity and cricket after originally receiving an MBE back in 1986.
Bird also has honoured doctorates from Huddersfield, Leeds and Sheffield Hallam Universities.

The 81 year-old was given the freedom of his home town of Barnsley in 2000, while a six-foot statue of the former umpire was erected in the town centre nine years later.
