With the Bantams' place in League 1 already secure for another season, Parkinson takes his City squad to Tranmere's Prenton Park on Saturday for their forty-sixth and final league fixture of 2013/2014 campaign.
Opponents Tranmere head into the game in the relegation zone and knowing that they will probably need a last-day win over City to stand any chance of securing their safety.
The game is understandably being billed as a huge one for the Wirral-based club, while City, in theory, go to Merseyside with nothing but pride to play for.
Despite Tranmere's greater urgency for the points on Saturday though, Parkinson insists the Bantams won't be going there just to make up the numbers.
He has called on his players to finish the season in an appropriate fashion and is targeting a win to ensure City end the campaign on a high note.
Parkinson said: "We know that Tranmere are fighting for their lives and there should be a special atmosphere in the ground on the day.
"We can't be concerned about Tranmere's situation though. We can only concentrate on our own position and the fact that we want to finish the season in a professional manner.
"We have worked really hard to get in the position we are currently in the league table and we want to complete this season to the best of our ability.
"We know that the game is going to be frenetic and fast-paced at times, and we have to be ready for that. If we go into the game at only 80%, we'll be in for a tough afternoon.
"We will be picking a team with enough attacking threat in it so that we can play on the front-foot and create chances. We will be picking the best team we can to try and win us the game.
"There might be some changes to our side but any changes made will be ones we feel will give us the strongest team to go and get the result."
Midweek draws for Oldham Athletic and Crawley Town mean that City remain in 13th spot in the League 1 table going into the final round of fixtures for the regular season this Saturday.
All this means is that if Bristol City lose or draw at Crawley Town in their final game this weekend, a City victory at Tranmere will ensure a top half finish for Parkinson's men.
A defeat for Walsall at the hands of Colchester United, coupled with a Bradford victory, would also do the trick for the Bantams.
Parkinson added: "It has been a very strong division this season and we will be delighted if we can get in that top half.
"It is certainly a good target for us come Saturday afternoon."
