This means that City will face either a League 2 side or a team who finished in the bottom half of League 1 last season in the first round of the competition.
Phil Parkinson's men have been seeded for the draw after finishing eleventh in League 1 at the end of the previous campaign.
As with previous years, next Tuesday's draw will also be split into two sections - north and south.
As a result, City will be drawn against one of the following seventeen teams in the first round.
