Meredith hasn't featured for Phil Parkinson's men since New Year's Day after breaking a bone in his foot back in January.
After the Aussie left back picked up the injury, it was feared that he might not play again this season.
But thanks to the efforts and determination of the defender, Parkinson admits Meredith may now play some part in the final four matches of City's 2013/2014 League 1 campaign.
Parkinson said: "It is great to have James back. He has worked so hard to get back out there.
"He has been doing so well recently that we pushed forward a specialist's appointment and had an x-ray done early on his foot.
"The specialist was happy with the results and has given him the ok to start outdoor running again.
"Mez has shown a great attitude throughout his injury and a real determination to get back as quick as possible.
"We are expecting to see him out on the pitch before the end of the season."
