McArdle had originally missed out on a place in Michael O'Neill's squad for the two fixtures, but the defender was named on stand-by and has now been called up due to defensive injuries in the Northern Irish camp.
The defender will travel to Belfast this Thursday to make up part of the Northern Ireland squad ahead of their match with European giants Portugal at Windsor Park this Friday evening.
Northern Ireland are then due to fly out on Sunday to Luxembourg for their away qualifier next Tuesday evening.
With McArdle due back in England late Wednesday evening, the Brentford match is the only game the defender is scheduled to miss for City.
McArdle's last international involvement came back in October when he was an unused substitute for Northern Ireland's previous match with the Portuguese - the 1-1 draw in Porto earlier in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
