"Playing at Valley Parade at this moment in time is incredible. The way the supporters get behind us is amazing and the lads love playing here.
"I get the impression that might not have been the case here in years gone by for whatever reason, but we really look forward to playing at Valley Parade now.
"Teams have in the past have enjoyed coming here and playing their football because of the size of the crowd and the stadium.
"I am sure that opposing sides still do enjoy playing here, but when we get the crowd really going on our side, it makes it a very enjoyable atmosphere for us to play in.
"The crowd here does genuinely make a difference to us and it gives the lads that little bit more confidence.
"The noise pushes you on that little bit more. In that sense, our fans really are like a twelfth man.
"We have had a good start to the season but that is all it is – a start. It is up to us now to build on this good start that we have had.
"Colchester have shown by some of their results already this season that they are one of the better teams in this division.
"They have some good players in their side and it will be another tough game for us, but it is one we are looking forward to."
Team-mate Andrew Davies, who has played a significant role in helping City to their three consecutive home clean-sheets, has echoed the sentiments of his skipper by saying that City are not getting carried away by their good start to the season.
Davies said: “We know that the reason why we have won all of our home matches so far is because we have done all the simple things right.
“We are working hard for each other in all of the matches.
“Nahki (Wells) and Hanse (James Hanson) have obviously been giving us a threat, but the whole team is gelling together and working as a unit.
“We are working our socks off for each other and winning our individual battles.
“Not every home game is going to go in our favour, but we can work our hardest in as many of them as possible to try and make a decent number of them go in our favour.”
