Bradford City 2 Shrewsbury Town 1

28 September 2013

Saturday 28 September 2013at the Coral Windows Stadium
Kick Off: 3.00pm
Shrewsbury Town 1 (Bradshaw 2)
Bradford City 2 (Reid 60, Hanson 90+4)
Sky Bet League 1

Both Alan Connell and Yeates, who replaced the injured Wells in supporting Hanson up front, kept the ball alive inside Shrewsbury's penalty area before Hanson pounced to smash home a right footed strike into the bottom corner to send the Coral Windows Stadium into raptures.

Despite City laying siege to Shrewsbury's goal in the game's final knockings, the entertaining contest looked to be heading for a draw until James Meredith pumped one last ball into the box.

On first glance, the decision to caution Winfield again looked harsh, but the defender had already enjoyed a slice of luck earlier in the afternoon when he escaped without a booking for the foul that injured Wells and when he received only a yellow card for bringing down Hanson as the striker looked to burst clear on goal.

With two minutes of normal time to go, Shrewsbury found themselves down to ten men when Dave Winfield was given his second booking of the afternoon for handling Mark Yeates' goal-bound shot just outside the area.

The Bantams kept knocking at Shrewsbury's door following Reid's leveller, although Bradshaw could have fired the visitors back in front with only nine minutes left when he squandered a promising one-on-one opportunity with City 'keeper Jon McLaughlin.

City regrouped after the break, however, and Kyel Reid drew Parkinson's side level with a drive from inside the area on the hour mark.

Things then got even worse for the Bantams when top scorer Nahki Wells limped off with an ankle injury midway through the first period.

After losing Rory McArdle to illness the morning of the game, City's afternoon got off to an equally unhelpful start when Tom Bradshaw headed in from close range to give Shrewsbury the lead with less than ninety seconds played.

Hanson swooped to net the all-important winner in the fourth and final minute of added time at the end of the game to snatch all three points and seal City's comeback with virtually one of the last kicks of the game.

James Hanson's injury time strike secured a dramatic home victory for Phil Parkinson's resilient Bantams in the most thrilling fashion.
