City duo supporting 'Brandon's Beard'

5 November 2013

City duo Gary Jones and Jason Kennedy have pledged to throw their support behind a fundraising project being organised by Sky Bet League 2 side Rochdale.

Midfielders Jones and Kennedy, both of whom remain hugely popular at Rochdale after their time at Spotland Stadium, have agreed to each grow a beard to raise money for a very worthy cause.

To help Rochdale assistant manager Chris Beech's son, Brandon, who unfortunately has Cystic Fibrosis, the Lancashire club are encouraging their current and former players and staff, plus Rochdale fans and football supporters from across the country to down their shavers this November.

The fundraising project has been dubbed 'Brandon's Beard'.

The Beech family are hoping, if possible, to try and collect enough money from this fundraising idea to help pay for a special bed for Brandon.

Brandon was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of just three. He has physio twice a day to help remove the mucus that builds up in his lungs.

He also uses a nebuliser five times a day and takes around 40 tablets.

Brandon has recently developed liver disease due to his Cystic Fibrosis and this is causing him a lot of pain and discomfort. His liver and spleen are enlarged because of the liver disease which is resulting in tummy pains and a loss of appetite.

The Beech family are always looking for ways to improve Brandon’s life, and they have recently been told about a vibrating bed, which if used, would help improve the function of his lungs. It works by loosening the mucus on his lungs while he sleeps.

Those involved in 'Brandon's Beard', including Kennedy and Jones, will be sponsored for growing their beards to try and get this bed for Brandon as soon as possible.
