Alan Connell's late, late penalty in the very final seconds of the game rescued a point for City after Aldershot had threatened to register a smash and grab away victory.

Connell's penalty in the last of eight minutes of time added on managed to cancel out Kieron Cadogan's opener on the stroke of half time for Aldershot and give City at least some reward for their totally dominant display.

Despite going into injury time at the end of a frustrating game trailing, City had enjoyed almost complete control over proceedings from the very start of the encounter.

Zavon Hines was twice denied by smart save from Jamie Young in the opening quarter of the game, while Michael Nelson sent a free header narrowly wide of the post following Will Atkinson's inviting centre.

Just before the interval, however, City were stunned when Cadogan's free-kick from a wide position beat everyone before nestling in the far bottom corner of Jon McLaughlin's goal to give the visitors a barely-deserved half time lead.

Aldershot debutant Paul McCallum slid wide from close range after he'd latched onto a fizzing low cross from Cadogan ten minutes after the restart, but, aided by the arrival of Kyel Reid and Garry Thompson from the bench on the hour mark, City began to lay siege to the Aldershot goal as the second half progressed.

By the time Connell had made an appearance from the bench twelve minutes before the end of normal time to allow City to move to a 3-4-1-2 formation, it was virtually constant one-way traffic towards Aldershot's goal.

Partly due to second half injuries to Aldershot 'keeper Jamie Young and skipper Ben Herd, both of whom had to be replaced, as many as eight minutes of injury time were put up to give City one last bit of hope as the clock ticked past ninety.

Over seven of those minutes had passed when Hines nipped to just beat Shots defender Terrell Forbes to a loose ball before tumbling to the ground under the centre half's challenge.

Referee Mr Clark had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Connell had no doubts about taking the kick.

Despite the pressure of the kick, the Bantams striker coolly took his time before driving his spot-kick past substitute 'keeper's Glenn Morris' dive to ensure a share of the spoils for City in drama fashion.

45+1min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Aldershot Town 1 - The visitors take a shock lead from the free-kick that follows when Kieron Cadogan's wide delivery beats everyone before nestling in the far corner.
