Duke to serve one game ban

24 February 2013

Bantams keeper Matt Duke should only be suspended for one game following his Capital One Cup Final dismissal at Wembley Stadium this Sunday afternoon.

Duke was given his marching orders just before the hour mark after he was adjudged to have tripped up Swansea City midfielder Jonathan De Guzman as the Dutch international went to tap home from close range.

Should, as expected, match official Kevin Friend mark the sending off down as denying a goal or obvious goalscoring opportunity, this penalty carries a one-game suspension.

That means the shot-stopper will only have to sit out Wednesday's npower League 2 home match with Dagenham & Redbridge.

Speaking about the sending off, Bantams boss Phil Parkinson felt the decision by Mr Friend was slightly unnecessary.

"The referee could have perhaps used some common sense," said Parkinson.

"We were three goals down at that stage and with a penalty to face.

"With the greatest of respect to my lads, we were never likely to come back and win 5-4 so he could have just booked Matt."
