McBurnie to train with first team

21 August 2013

Apprentice forward Oliver McBurnie has been rewarded for his fine recent form by being handed the opportunity to train with Phil Parkinson's first team squad.

The promising forward, who will now take part in training sessions with the senior side, has netted four in the youth team's first two games. Three of those came in last weekend's impressive victory over Hull City as McBurnie scored a 'perfect' hat-trick - right foot, left foot, header.

Before that, McBurnie, 17, enjoyed a productive week on work experience with Manchester United last month, helping them to win the Under 18s Milk Cup during his brief spell with the Red Devils.

He finished joint-top scorer for the youth tournament with five goals in five games, including two goals in the semi final and the winner in the final.

McBurnie will continue to be available for future youth team fixtures and he hasn't been given a squad number as of yet, but Parkinson feels the move will give the young striker a good taster of life as a pro.

Parkinson confirmed: "Ollie will now come into the first team picture.

"He will train with us and be given a taste of what it is like being in and around the first team squad."
