McBurnie caps off fine week

3 August 2013

City apprentice Oliver McBurnie capped off a week to remember by netting the winner for Manchester United in the Milk Cup Final.

McBurnie's late winner in Friday night's final against County Tyrone was enough to secure United victory in the international Under 18s tournament for the first time since 2009.

The match-winning effort took McBurnie's overall total in the tournament for Man United to an impressive five goals in five games.

The second year scholar was taking part in the competition for United on work experience after the Red Devils asked City to help them out with a player due to injuries to a number of their strikers.

Upon hearing the news of McBurnie's winning goal for United, City's Head of Youth Development Peter Horne said: "We are all extremely pleased for Ollie.

"He has done himself and the football club very proud. His performances have been impressive throughout the tournament and we are sure Ollie will have learnt a lot from playing with one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Following the completion of the competition, McBurnie is now due back at Bradford to continue his apprenticeship with the Bantams.
