City boss Phil Parkinson was delighted to see striker Alan Connell get off the mark for the Bantams as the summer recruit came off the bench at the Crown Ground to deservedly snatch a share of the spoils for Bradford against Accrington Stanley this Saturday.
Despite dominating proceedings throughout the first half, Parkinson's men found themselves trailing with only six minutes left at Accrington until Connell popped up to register his first goal for City with a superb first-time lob from outside the area.
Parkinson said:"It was a superb finish from Alan. I thought he contributed a lot, not just with his goal, when he came on.
"It's always nice when a striker scores his first goal for their new club and Alan is now off and running for us. I am really pleased for him.
"Alan has been working hard to catch up with the team after joining us midway through pre-season. He scored for the reserves in a friendly match with Sheffield Wednesday in midweek and he's now followed that up today."
Although City ended up scoring their point-gaining goal through Connell after the restart, it was actually during the first period when Parkinson's side looked more likely to score.
For the most part, the Bantams enjoyed a stranglehold on the opening half but couldn't quite get their noses in front despite Zavon Hines hitting the post and Accrington skipper Luke Joyce producing a goal-saving clearance to deny Will Atkinson an easy tap-in.
Parkinson added: "I thought in the first fourty-five minutes we were excellent and we should have come in at half time ahead. We didn't though, and then we got the set-back of conceding their goal.
"We didn't feel sorry for ourselves, however, and we went again. I thought our response was very good.
"First half in the match we've had some great chances. We really needed to take one of those chances. To come in at half time having not scored after playing so well was obviously a bit of a set-back for the lads.
"It seemed like for twenty minutes in the second half we then lost out way a bit.
"We also made them change their style of play a bit. They went a lot more direct in the second period.
"They stopped playing with it in their own half and they kicked it long to their left winger and then played for second balls. We probably got a bit careless in possession and gave the ball away a bit too much during that period as well.
"You know in football that it is very rare that you dominate for ninety minutes, but you have to put the ball in the back of the net when you have your periods of dominance.
"We obviously didn't when we were on top in the first half. Have we been punished by that? Well, we've got a point but we possibly deserved all three."
