Jones wary ahead of Barnet match

11 September 2012

City midfielder Gary Jones has assured supporters that Phil Parkinson's men will not be complacent in the slightest when they entertain Barnet this weekend, despite the Bees' slow start to the new season.

Barnet head to the Coral Windows Stadium this Saturday with only one point under their belts after the first five League 2 fixtures of the fledgling 2012/2013 season.

The Hertforshire-based club's lack of wins this campaign sees them currently down at the bottom of the table, but as Jones vehemently insists, that doesn't mean City will be taking them lightly whatsoever.

Jones said: "We've had a decent start to the season so far. If we can get a good haul of points from these two home games coming up (City hosting Morecambe the Tuesday after the Barnet fixture) then we might be able to call it a great start.

"It's an old cliché though, but we just have to take things one game at a time and really focus our efforts entirely on the strengths and weaknesses of the next team coming up.

"Barnet this Saturday, it's a tough one. It's tough because some people might be thinking that we have the win in our pockets because of Barnet's struggles so far this season.

"We don't think that at all though. We will be going into the match like we have done for any other game this season.

"If we don't, it will be highly disrespectful to Barnet and we'll end up falling flat on our faces.

"It is important that we start the game well and look to get the crowd going and right behind us. We need to be in their (Barnet's) faces from the very off to put a marker down.

"We want them to be thinking from the first minute that they are going to be in for a difficult afternoon. Hopefully if we do that, it will be enough to get us the win."
