.City sensationally booked their place in the Capital One Cup Quarter-Finals thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over Premiership Wigan Athletic on a truly memorable night for the Bantams

Cheered on by a vocal and passionate 5,000 visiting supporters, City, despite missing the key trio of Ricky Ravenhill, Andrew Davies and Luke Oliver from the weekend, kept their higher-ranked hosts out for 120 minutes before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Following an earlier miss in the shoot-out from Wigan's Shaun Maloney, the recalled Matt Duke produced the all-important penalty save to seal the tie for City, keeping out Jordi Gomez's effort after Phil Parkinson's men had successfully converted all of their previous four kicks.

In City's 150th League Cup tie ever, the penalty victory for the Bantams was amazingly their SEVENTH straight shoot-out victory in all competitions.

The result was no more than City's heroic performers deserved as well, as Parkinson's side did their amazing away support proud against a side ranked 59 places higher up the English football ladder.

Aided by a whole host of fine individual performances, City ran themselves into the ground to limit Roberto Martinez's men to little over normal time and in extra time.

With City's tremendous travelling army filling the DW Stadium with noise throughout the majority of the night, City put up a claret and amber barricade in front of Duke's goal.

When the hosts did get through City's defences, however, Duke was on hand to expertly keep the hosts at bay, making important saves from Mauro Boselli and Gomez during the night.

It wasn't all defending for City though. Zavon Hines, in particular, enjoyed one bright chance in the second period when he ran from deep before being denied from close range by Ali Al Habsi at his near post.

Gomez squandered a great one-on-one chance for Wigan in the second period of extra time but there was no denying City once they had deservedly taken the tie to penalties.

120min: McArdle heads over following a late Jones free-kick into the Wigan penalty area.

115min: A massive kick from Duke bounces all the way through to Al Habsi in the opposite goal.

111min: Gomez misses a great chance to fire Wigan into the lead when Watson's superb pass from deep plays him in on goal. Gomez's strike beats Duke but his effort also bounces wide of the post as well, much to the delight of the 5,000 City fans behind that particular goal.

109min: Beausejour drills a low centre right dangerously across City's six yard box. Boselli fails to get a proper connection on the ball with his first effort at the opposite end of the goal and his second strike is right at Duke.

106min: Wigan kick off the second period of extra time.

HT of ET: Wigan Athletic 0 Bradford City 0

105min: There will be one minute of time added on at the end of the first period of extra time.

105min: Meredith has to head clear from right underneath his own bar following a teasing cross from the byline by Beausejour.

102min: SUB - Adam Baker is brought on for Hines.

101min: Boselli fires narrowly wide of Duke's far post with a low angled drive after he was played into plenty of space inside City's penalty area.

100min: Beausejour sends over a teasing near post cross but Boselli fails to get proper contact on the ball from only yards with an attempted side-foot volley and centre whizzes across goal instead.

100min: McArdle gets up at the near post to met a Jones corner but his header goes across goal instead of towards it.

97min: Gomez flicks the ball up to volley it forward from the edge of City's area but the drive is wide of Duke's far post.

93min: A far post header from Boselli is deflected into the side-netting.

93min: McArdle gets his head onto a fizzing Beausejour drive from the edge of the area to deflect the effort over the bar.

92min: Duke comes out quickly to spread himself and block an effort from Boselli after the striker had spun into space following Watson's pass into the area.

91min: The Bantams begin the first period of extra time.

END OF NINETY MINUTES - TIE GOES TO EXTRA TIME

90+3min: Maloney fires a strike wide of Duke's near post from around 25 yards out.

90min: There will be four minutes of time added on at the end of the tie.

89min: Doyle fires a low strike from around 20 yards out a few inches wide of Al Habsi's near post.

88min: YELLOW CARD - Beausejour is eventually booked for a foul on Hines just inside Wigan's half after referee Mr East had played an advantage.

84min: Gomez plays Boselli into space but the striker's angled drive from inside City's area is gathered into his chest by Duke at his near post.

82min: YELLOW CARD - Darby is booked for catching Maloney with a late tackle around the halfway line.

82min: While under pressure from Rory McArdle, Fraser Fyvie fires wide of goal from a decent position inside the area after being played in by Maloney.

77min: SUBS - Wigan bring on Shaun Maloney and Jean Beausejour for McManaman and Redmond respectively.

76min: Duke manages to push away a fizzing drive from distance by Watson.

75min: Hines has a massive chance to fire City into the lead! Carrying the ball from the halfway line into a sparsely-populated Wigan half, Hines bursts past Watson inside the area but his angled drive is saved from barely yards out at his near post by Al Habsi.

73min: Redmond and Hines are both fine to continue after a brief break in play to allow the pair to receive treatment from their respective physios after a clash of heads.

70min: Wigan work a short corner but it eventually only ends up with Gomez firing an angled drive from the edge of the area wildly wide.

68min: Hanson curls an effort comfortably over Al Habsi's bar from around 20 yards out.

65min: SUB - Alan Connell is brought on to replace Wells.

64min: YELLOW CARD - Adrian Lopez is booked for blocked off Hines just outside Wigan's area following a surging run forward from the Bantams winger.

60min: Another cross from Stam eventually finds its way through to Danny Redmond at the far post but the left wing back heads over from around ten yards out.

58min: Stam's flighted cross is headed back across goal by Boselli but Gomez isn't quite able to scramble a strike in on goal at Duke's near post.

57min: SUB - Gary Jones is brought on for Thompson. Atkinson has moved out to the left wing and Zavon Hines onto the right to accommodate Jones' arrival in central midfield.

55min: A long Darby throw-in eventually falls at the feet of Will Atkinson but his first time effort from just inside the area is scuffed well wide of the target.

48min: YELLOW CARD - Carl McHugh is booked for catching Gomez late with a tackle around 25 yards from goal.

46min: Jones' drive from outside the area is straight at Duke, who clings on and gathers first time.

46min: Wigan restart the tie.

HT: Wigan Athletic 0 Bradford City 0

45+1min: Duke produces a superb reaction save to tip over a first-time volley from Gomez from around ten yards out after the Spaniard had been picked out by a flighted ball over the top from Watson.

45min: There will be a minute of time added on at the end of the first half.

45min: YELLOW CARD - Jones is booked for dragging back Doyle as the City midfielder tries to run forward just inside Wigan's area.

45min: Duke slides out to the very edge of his penalty area to beat Boselli to a potentially-dangerous through ball.

44min: Wells tries an ambitious effort from all of 35 yards out which Al Habsi keeps out with relative ease.

43min: Another penalty shout for City goes up when Stephen Darby appears to be blocked off as he surges into the area. On first glance though, the ball did seem to be running away from City's right back at the time and referee Mr East gives the hosts the benefit of the doubt by not awarding anything other than a goal-kick.

35min: Hanson is a yard or so behind a teasing cross into the area by Wells following a quick attack forward by the Bantams that began thanks to a big kick up field from Duke.

35min: A scuffed drive from Boselli at the far post is saved in straight-forward fashion by Duke.

33min: Shouts for a penalty in the away end as Hanson goes down inside the area after a bump from behind by Watson. To be honest, the touch by Watson on Hanson didn't seem too severe and nothing is given.

32min: Duke comes out from his goal to beat Boselli quite easily to another defence-splitting pass from Gomez.

26min: Wells volleys over from around twelve yards out following James Meredith's cross into the box.

24min: Nahki Wells is merely inches away from beating Ali Al Habsi to a weak Ramis back-pass after good pressure from James Hanson. Wells tries to use his pace to get in on goal but Al Habsi slides out to just in time to beat the Bermudian to the ball and kick clear.

21min: Boselli heads Ronnie Stam's far post centre back across goal but Gomez fires over with an eye-catching and acrobatic flying volley from around twelve yards out.

14min: A superb through ball from Gomez splits City's defence to put Mauro Boselli in on Matt Duke's goal. Just as the striker looks to turn and shoot at last man Duke, however, City's 'keeper nips in expertly to grab the ball off Boselli's toes.

10min: Wigan think they have opened the scoring when Ivan Ramis connects with a near post header from an in-swinging Jordi Gomez free-kick. The home fans' celebrations are cut short by the linesman's flag, however, as the defender is flagged offside.

7min: Callum McManaman eventually wriggles free of the clutches of a couple of City defenders before fizzing over a dangerous cross. City clear the initial danger and Ben Watson's follow up effort from just outside the area is sliced horribly wide of goal.

0min: With the DW Stadium bouncing to the noise of 5,000 travelling City supporters, the Bantams kick off the tie.
