James Rollo - 1937-2012

18 October 2012

The football club was deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of former player James Rollo.

James was aged 74 when he sadly passed away.

James was born at Kildonan, Helmsdale in Sutherland on November 16th 1937.

His family later moved to Perth where he played for Perth Schoolboys. Jim played in Junior football  before he was signed by Hibernian.

He actually displaced the Hi-Bi’s legendary goalkeeper Tommy Younger during his two and a half year spell at Easter Road. He left Hibernian following a contractual disagreement, the club wanting him to sign full time whilst Jim wished to continue being a baker and confectioner.

In 1957 Jim left Hibernian and came south to join up with Poole Town before he joined Oldham Athletic.

In 1963 he signed for Southport where he remained for one season. Jim signed for City in July 1964 making his debut in a 1-0 defeat at Barrow on 3rd October 1964.

After two games he lost his  place to regular keeper Bernard Fisher, but a catastrophic drop in form by Fisher saw Jim replace him as the regular keeper.

He made thirty two appearances in his first season. Jim left City to join Scarborough in July 1966 having made thirty seven league appearances and three cup appearances for City’.

Our condolences are extended to Jim’s family at this time.
