npower League 2
Bradford City 1 (G Jones 21)
Plymouth Argyle 0
Kick Off: 7.45pm
at the Coral Windows Stadium

Attendance: 8,843 (195 visitors)

Gary Jones' second goal of the season managed to secure City a hard-fought victory over Plymouth Argyle, pushing Phil Parkinson's men back up to fifth position in the table in the process.

Jones was on hand to grab his match-winning goal midway through the first half when possession fell his way around twelve yards out after James Hanson and Nahki Wells had kept the ball alive inside Plymouth's area.

City's skipper finished the move with a drive into the bottom corner and despite some periods of Plymouth pressure in the second period, the goal proved enough to get Parkinson's side back to winning ways following the weekend defeat by Exeter City.

Sadly though, Jones' goal came during a half that unfortunately also saw young defender John Egan suffer a broken right leg.

Egan, who is on loan from Premier League side Sunderland, picked up the nasty injury after falling awkwardly following a headed clearance just outside his own penalty area.

Play was halted for over five minutes as Egan received medical treatment before being stretchered off.

MATCH UPDATES:

FT: Bradford City 1 Plymouth Argyle 0

90min: There will be two minutes of time added on at the end of the match.

90min: SUB - Plymouth bring on Warren Feeney for MacDonald.

90min: Lowry drags a shot wide of goal from around 20 yards out.

87min: Atkinson fizzes over a glorious centre that is begging to be converted but no City player unfortunately is on hand to apply the finishing touches in the middle.

86min: Cutting in from the right wing, Ritchie Jones fires wide of goal with an angled drive from outside the area on his left foot.

81min: Rene Gilmartin denies Will Atkinson with a smart reaction save to his left to keep out the midfielder's bottom corner-bound strike from inside the area.

80min: SUB - City now bring on Ritchie Jones for Thompson.

78min: Chadwick forces Duke into a decent reaction save at his near post after the Plymouth striker had struck a rising drive from an angle inside the Bantams penalty area.

77min: SUB - City bring on Alan Connell for Wells.

74min: SUB - Plymouth bring on Tyler Harvey for Paris Cowan-Hall.

70min: City's camp scream for a penalty when Thompson seems to have his arm tugged by Nelson as the Bantams attacker looks to turn and shoot following Hanson's header down into the area . Despite the protests from City's bench and from in the stands though, nothing is given.

67min: Hanson and Curtis Nelson are inches away from connecting with a teasing Wells centre across the six yard box as they both look to get to the ball for different reasons. Seconds later Meredith picks out Hanson with a cross from the opposite flank but the striker's glancing header flashes well wide of the target.

66min: Lowry sends a dipping first-time effort from all of 30 yards out not too far over Duke's bar.

64min: Chadwick heads comfortably over the bar from around eight yards out following MacDonald's floated cross into the area.

60min: Jones fires a yard or so over the bar with a rising strike from just inside the area after being picked by Thompson's cut-back from near the byline.

57min: MacDonald fires a couple of yards wide of Duke's near post with a shot on the turn from around 20 yards out.

50min: MacDonald should equalise for the visitors when Chadwick's flick on places the Plymouth attacker in behind City's defence. Holding off the advances of McArdle, MacDonald only has Duke to beat but fires a powerful shot wide of the far post from inside the penalty area.

45min: The Bantams restart the match.

HT: Bradford City 1 Plymouth Argyle 0

45+6min: Matt Duke makes a brilliant reaction save from Jamie Lowry on the stroke of half time. Nick Chadwick's header back into the mix following a Plymouth ball into the area eventually finds Lowry lurking but Duke thrusts up a hand to keep out the midfielder's close range strike.

45min: There will be six minutes of time added on at the end of the first period.

45min: After collecting a Stephen Darby throw-in, Wells spins into space but can only fire well wide of the target with a low effort from distance.

38min: Jones fizzes over a teasing wide free-kick from just outside the area that seems to narrowly miss at least three City team-mates on its way through Plymouth's penalty area.

25min: Early reports coming through to the press box seem to suggest that Egan has broken his right leg.

21min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Bradford City 1 Plymouth Argyle 0 - City take the lead through Gary Jones barely minutes after Egan's unfortunate withdrawal. With James Hanson and Wells keeping the ball alive just inside Plymouth's penalty area, Jones finishes off the move with a strike into bottom corner when possession fell his way.

18min: SUB - Over five minutes pass while Egan receives treatment on the pitch before the centre half is eventually stretchered off and replaced by Carl McHugh.

12min: A major blow for City and for John Egan when the defender appears to suffer what seems quite a serious injury after failing awkwardly following a headed clearance. The defender is down in agony and unfortunately a stretcher is going to be required.

4min: Garry Thompson's prod for goal from around eight yards out is blocked away by a Plymouth defender following James Meredith's dangerous low centre across the box. Picking up the rebound, Nahki Wells tries to wriggle free into the shooting space but his shot from close range is also deflected away.

1min: Andres Gurrieri sends an early header comfortably wide of the target from around eight yards out following Durrell Berry's hanging cross into the area.

0min: Plymouth kick off the match. City will attack towards the T.L Dallas Stand end in the first period.
