Bradford City win 4-2 on penalties - After Extra Time
City secured their passage into the F.A Cup with Budweiser Second Round in the most thrilling fashion by beating Northampton Town 4 - 2 on penalties after a truly dramatic replay at the Coral Windows Stadium.
The shoot-out victory, secured by Ricky Ravenhill after squandered penalties from Northampton's Kelvin Langmead and Danny East, was incredibly City's EIGHTH on the trot in recent seasons and books them a date at home to League 1 Brentford at the start of December.
Leading 2-1 going into the final minute of injury time thanks to a late penalty from substitute Nahki Wells, City had been cruelly taken to extra time when Clive Platt fired home for the visitors with barely 30 seconds of the allocated time remaining.
With James Meredith then limping off at the start of the second period of extra time to leave City with only ten men having already made all their subs, things got even worse for Phil Parkinson's men when Langmead drove Northampton into the lead of the tie for the first time with a well-taken strike eleven minutes to go.
Despite tiring legs and a numerical disadvantage though, City unbelievably still found the reserves to come back in the tie once more time when Carl McHugh stooped to head home his first goal for the club in the final minute of extra time to bring on penalties.
After his earlier success from the spot, Wells' saw his effort in the shoot-out saved by Cobblers 'keeper Shane Higgs first up, but a Jon McLaughlin save from East's own kick and Langmead firing over the bar then put City back in the driving seat.
Converted penalties from Stephen Darby and Northampton's Lewis Hornby left it to Ravenhill to finally finish the tie off and keep City's amazing penalty record going when he fired past Higgs.
Earlier in the tie, Will Atkinson had initially given City the lead in the first half of normal time with his second of the season - his first coming in the maiden cup encounter between the two clubs eleven days ago - before Ishmel Demontagnac levelled things up two minutes before the interval thanks to a disputed penalty after Ravenhill was adjudged to have brought the attacker down in the area.
The award of the penalty was all the harder to take for the majority within the City camp after barely minutes earlier City substitute Adam Baker appeared to have been clearly pulled back by Joe Widdowson when clear on goal.
Despite City eventually having the last laugh on penalties, the night didn't go completely trouble-free with Meredith and Zavon Hines appearing to pick up injuries which would already put them in doubt for Saturday's npower League 2 home fixture with Exeter City.
