City booked their place in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi-Final for the second year in succession with an impressive win at Port Vale - keeping their unbeaten record in cup competitions this season going for another game in the process.

in the second half were enough to secure the victory for Phil Parkinson's much-changing side.yGoals from Ritchie Jones and Craig Forsyth earl

The knock-out victory was no more than City deserved after a string of Parkinson's squad members took their opportunity to shine.

The likes of Tom Naylor, who formed a handy central defensive partnership with Curtis Good on the night, goalscorers Jones and Forsyth, plus Garry Thompson, who set up both goals, to name but a few all played their part against a near full-strength Vale outfit.

City did have to survive a strong penalty either side of their goals, however, when Jennison Myrie-Williams went down inside the box after suggesting he was bundled over from behind by Carl McHugh.

The winger wasn't given a spot-kick and was in fact booked for diving - much to the annoyance of the majority within the Vale camp.

In fairness to City though, the talking point was the only real incident of concern for them during the whole night as they moved within two rounds of a trip to Wembley Stadium for the grand final.

MATCH UPDATES:

FT: Port Vale 0 Bradford City 2

90+3min: Taylor's low drive from around 20 yards out is gathered by McLaughlin with relative ease.

90+2min: Connell's low curling effort from the edge of Vale's area is gathered by Neal despite pressure from the on-rushing Hanson.

90+1min: Hanson fires a rising drive just past Neal's near post after being teed up by Connell inside the area.

90min: There will be three minutes of time added on.

88min: YELLOW CARD - Hanson is booked for a foul on Shuker around the halfway line.

87min: Hanson just beats Neal to the ball at the very edge of Vale's area following Forsyth searching punt forward from deep. Hanson's touch takes him away from goal, however, and the best he can go is slide the ball out for a throw-in to prevent a goal-kick.

81min: McLaughlin makes an important stop to smother a fierce drive from Myrie-Williams around ten yards out after the Vale winger had beaten Doyle to Loft's cross-field pass to give him a clear sight of goal.

77min: Ritchie Jones' near post header around ten yards out from Forsyth's inswinging cross sails comfortably wide.

75min: Myrie-Williams fizzing ball low across the six yard box is directed over his own bar by the boot of Curtis Good right in front of goal.

74min: Not for the first time, Loft cuts inside from a wide position for a shot but this time his effort sails way over the bar.

72min: SUB - City bring on James Hanson for Thompson in a direct swap.

66min: After cutting inside from a wide position, Loft sees his effort from around 20 yards deflect narrowly wide of the post.

63min: Thompson fires a first-time effort from around 20 yards out comfortably wide of goal.

62min: SUBS - City bring on Nathan Doyle for Stephen Darby and Gary Jones for Trugott. Doyle will play at right back and Ritchie Jones will move to right midfield.

57min: After cutting in from a wide position, Thompson drives in a fierce effort from around 20 yards out that Neal does well to tip over.

55min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!! Port Vale 0 Bradford City 2 - Barely minutes after surviving a huge penalty shout, City double their lead from Forsyth's maiden strike for the club. The loanee winger is on hand to coolly slot home past last-man Neal from around eight yards out after being found in aches of space by a low centre across the box from Thompson.

53min: YELLOW CARD - Myrie-Williams is booked in controversial fashion for diving despite appearing to be bundled over from behind by McHugh inside the area after beating the Irish defender for pace.

51min: After City can only half-clear the corner that follows, Chilvers manages to power a header for goal that McLaughlin bundles around the post.

51min: A slip from McHugh allows Myrie-Williams a free run down Vale's right flank. The winger flies into City's area at pace but despite having options to his left, Myrie-Williams decides to shoot and his effort is blocked by Naylor.

48min: Myrie-Williams cut inside from a wide position just inside City's area befoe whistling a drive a few yards wide of McLaughlin's far post.

46min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!! Port Vale 0 Bradford City 1 - Ritchie Jones fires City into the lead with his first goal of the season! After latching onto a through-ball from Connell, Thompson tees the ball across for Jones to side-foot home into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

46min: The Bantams restart the game.

46min: SUB - Vale bring on Louis Dodds for Williamson before the beginning of the second period.

HT: Port Vale 0 Bradford City 0

44min: Thompson's deflected cross from City's right flank loops up towards Forsyth, who heads the ball back into the mix. Connell looks to swoop on the ball from the edge of the six yard box but Liam Chilvers is just a step quicker and heads clear.

44min: Myrie-Williams' angled drive from a wide position is gathered by McLaughlin by his near post.

43min: Andrew's header down into the mix from the corner that follows is hooked clear of danger by Tom Naylor.

30min: Forsyth fires high over the bar with an angled drive from just inside Port Vale's area after Ritchie Jones had led a City counter-attack.

25min: Thompson just beats Neal to a searching through ball but with the City attacker pushed wide of goal and by the byline, the best he can do is pick out Forsyth, who sees his shot from just inside the area blocked away.

25min: Jennison Myrie-Williams' inswinging cross from the right misses everyone before being collected by McLaughlin low at his near post.

23min: Ben Williamson fires a yard or so wide of the target with a fierce angled drive from just outside the area.

2min: Alan Connell's low free-kick from around 20 yards out is kept out and then gathered at the second attempt by Vale 'keeper Chris Neal.

0min: Port Vale kick off the tie. City will defend the goal with the Bantams' travelling supporters housed behind it.
